Got a cerclage put in
By kimmy85 » Posted Feb. 6, 2014 2:45pm - 723 views - 8 comments

So we went for our anatomy scan and cervical scan on Monday. The anatomy scan went great! Baby is doing wonderful and my in laws came with us to see him! It was so cute because my FIL has never seen an ultrasound before and he kept saying, "Wow!! Would you look at that!" lol it was adorable! After they were finished with that scan the in laws left and they did the cervical scan, as so it showed up on the screen we could see that the cervix was different from the 1st scan 13 days prior. We had gone from 3.5cm to 2cm. So the tech called the doctor and he said that we would be coming back in next day to have the cerclage put in. I was a wreak, crying for about a whole day. I was extremely nervous and didn't know what to expect at all, doctor and nurses talked us through the procedure and told me that I would be getting a spinal tab, I guess that's the moment when I freaked out a little bit. I have never had anything like that so I was scared. So we went to the hospital the following morning at 5:30 am they put an IV in and started the fluids, around 1pm the nurse came back and gave me indocine to help relax my uterus then at 3 the doctor was ready to take us back, he allowed my husband to come with us because he knew how nervous I was. Once we got to the OR the anesthesiologist came back and started prepping to do the spinal. My doctor had me sit Indian style on the table and lean forward onto him, he held my hand and talked me through what was happening, it was nothing!!! I was so surprised at how simple it was! After that they got my husband and got started on the procedure. Before we knew it they were cleaning me up and taking us back to recovery. After about an hour I was finally able to eat so I ordered so much food for my husband, since he refused to eat because I couldn't, and I to eat and we did!! Then I was able to get up and go the bathroom, I couldn't pee at first because they put a foley in when they did the cerclage so I took a hot shower and when I got out I was able to pee! Which then meant we could go home! We left and went to a friends house since I was unable to walk up the 3 flights of stairs to our apartment! The cramping wasn't to bad at all nothing Tylenol couldn't handle and the bleeding was barely existent. We slept so well that night. And last night. Doctor has me relaxing until we see him again on the 21st where they will do another cervical scan, I really can't wait to see how things are going. I am so relieved and grateful for those cervical checks. Without them who knows what could have happened. Doctor says I have an incompetent cervix so for each following pregnancy I will have the cerclage put in at 12 weeks.
Today it has been 2 days since the cerclage was put in and I feel great! Doing the resting as I was told and just so thankful to still have my baby boy growing and kicking mommy :) I love those feelings!
Anyone else have a cerclage in?

Hi sweetie, its so wonderful to hear that you have had the cerclage inserted and are doing well. Cervical incompetence is something that sadly can only be diagnosed once a woman with the problem losses 2 babies. After my 2nd loss doctors discovered I had cervical incompetence hence why I had one inserted with my now pregnancy. I am grateful for the cerclage because it gives woman like us hope of having children. I am so glad that you and your baby boy are doing well. God Bless.
