Madelyn is 22 Days Old!

Time is sure flying by! Things have been going okay! Still an adjustment taking care of 2 kids, though!

Madelyn was doing great the first week we brought her home, but I started to notice that she was spitting up after every single nursing session, multiple times, sometimes it would even come out of her nose! Poor girl. She also started to get fussy during nursing and made it very difficult for me to enjoy nursing her. I brought it up to her doctor at her 2 week check up (technically she was 11 days old) and her doctor had me start her on a probiotic (Gerber Soothe, which is also a colic drop) and also told me to use gas drops as needed, since her belly was very hard. She also gave me a prescription for Zantac and told me to try the first two for a week, and if no improvement, to get the prescription filled. At 11 days, she weighed 7lbs 1oz, so only 1oz away from her birth weight, which her doctor was satisfied with! But also told me that if she doesn't keep gaining weight, we'd have to look into supplementing, etc. I had her weighed again the following Monday (exactly 2 weeks old) and she was 7lbs 2oz. I took her back this past Friday and she weighed 7lbs 8.5oz! So she's definitely gaining, which is a relief! The probiotics and gas drops had helped for a few days, but the spit up was still happening often and the fussiness came back. After one rough night of Madelyn crying and fussing from 1:30AM until 4AM, rooting like she was hungry, but immediately unlatching and screaming in pain, I gave in and got the prescription filled for the Zantac. And so far it is helping a ton! Way less spit up and she now nurses happily the entire session. I hate that I'm having to give her the medicine, but I'm so relieved to see that she seems to be more comfortable. I'm also letting her wake on her own at night to nurse now. I woke Allison up every 3 hours for at least the first month or so, but this time, sleep is even more valuable, since I have to get up with Allison and can't nap all day, every day like I did the first time! And luckily Madelyn will usually give me a good 4-5 hour stretch before waking up, which is nice! Allison is also trying to give up her naps already, which I'm not ready for... Hopefully we can hold onto them for just a while longer, I love getting to nap with both my girls!

Other than that, I'm just amazed at how fast time is going by. Hopefully the medicine continues to work for Madelyn. She has such a different personality than Allison and I'm both excited and sad to watch both of them growing so quickly! I plan to keep updating as time goes on. I still log on when I can (which lately, hasn't been often), and will most likely keep logging on for at least the first year of Madelyn's life. I plan to upload some pictures at some point, all are on my phone and it's a process to upload from my phone to my computer, then to resize and upload here, lol. But I'll get to it at some point! :)

Glad to hear everything is going well. I wish I was getting 4-5 hour stretches at night. He is still waking up every 2.5-3 hours to feed.

How old is Allison? My son Brandt is 22 months, and is trying to give up naps already as well. I'm not ready for that. Lol. Him and Valerie are on different nap schedules, but at least when he naps I can get the dishes done. Lol.

Glad baby is doing well! And don't feel bad about the medication. If it's helping her be happy, then it's worth it in my book! Happy baby means happy Mommy!

So glad to read your update! Glad you figured out the Madelyn's fussy issues and that things are getting better. I can't believe your daughter is ready to give up her naps! I can only hope that my daughter wants to continue napping when her little brother/sister is small yet. I feel like those few hours of the day are my only sanity sometimes...lol! Keep us updated on how everything is going! Take care :)
