Allergy Testing

I didn't think I'd update much after Madelyn turned 1, but I figured I'd add this here too. She had a mild reaction after her first taste of peanut butter. Allergy testing confirmed that she is allergic to peanuts :( she tested negative for other tree nuts, so that still leaves some options open for us. All the flood of information has been very overwhelming. Any advice or experiences with peanut allergies, please let me know! I'm new to this, as no one in our families have had a peanut allergy!

Sorry I didn't get to reply sooner, I was out of town and my internet wasn't that good! April, her skin test was positive for peanuts but negative for tree nuts and shellfish (she hadn't had shellfish so we tested for it). The doctor ordered blood work to test her levels. Her peanut allergy was 1.24, her "Ara h 1" was 0.5 and "Ara h 2" was 2.26.
The allergist said it was still considered "low" and she may outgrow it. He said to avoid peanuts and carry an epi-pen just in case of exposure.

Hi my son tested positive for peanuts, milk, and dog dander allergies. His doctor said that since his reaction to peanuts had been mild to give him small amounts to build up his tolerance he has been handling it quite well with no reaction at all. When they did the testing were her reaction levels highly elevated?

It's rough when they have allergies or even food sensitivities... I will at least say on the upside, since she tested negative for others you can at least substitute almond butter or sunflower seed butter, etc. there's so many more options now to help make it a little easier :). GL

Yeah! Peanut butter was a good way that Allison got protein on days she wouldn't eat meat :( I'm thankful that Madelyn's reaction was very mild, but I know each reaction can be different!
