Birth Story

Wow! I cant believe its been 2 months since I gave birth to my son Eli. Life has been so busy but wonderful. I would not trade motherhood for all the money in the world!! Its finally time for my birth story so that I dont for get all the details.

My pregnancy went 41 weeks. I had an appt on the exact 41 weeks and my Dr said we had to induce. He helped me along some by a membranes sweep. OMG did that hurt and make me really uncomfortable. The nurse then scheduled for me to check in at my hospitals L&D dept at midnight. Why at midnight I asked? And its literally to make the time more convenient for the Dr. LOL

At around 8pm that night however my contractions started. They were not too bad and far apart however as midnight approached they became stronger and closer together. At about 11:30 I lost my mucus plug! We decided to leave then for the hospital but they wouldnt let me check in till after 12:01. Some silly rule that if their records show Im in before midnight they would charge me as a whole extra day in the hospital! Once I got dressed, settled in bed, strapped in with I was examined. I was only at 1CM so I was to have 3 doses of Cytotec. By 230 am I was in extreme pain with strong and long contractions. I managed to breathe through them but by 8am I was done, I was exhausted since I hadnt slept in over 24 hours and I was still at only 1CM. When the nurse came by to check up on me and ask if I wanted an epidural I opted for it. I went back and forth for it with my wife, cried about it, and just wanted to rest for a while. After it was inserted I felt a hundred times better and was able to sleep. After that I was able to relax and it helped to allow my body to dilate pretty quick. By about 2pm I was full dilated and could start pushing however after a couple hrs of pushing my son still hadnt moved down much. According to the nurse he was turned about a couple inches preventing him from coming down completely. After those couple of hrs of unsuccessful pushing she stated we may need to do a C section since she claimed my son was too big and my body too small to push him out. I became so upset and didnâ??t believe what I was hearing. According to my last Drs visit I was told that Eli was on the smaller side and the ultrasound tech didnâ??t believe he would be bigger than 7 and half pounds. I cried to my wife of feeling like a failure and admitted I didnâ??t want a C sec and wanted to do this natural. She reassured me that we would have to do what was best for Eli and if that was the route we had to take then we would deal with it as it came and that it would be all ok. At about 4 after another unsuccessful push my nurse called in another nurse and after examining me was able to turn Eli the right direction to help the birth along! After a couple last pushes we were ready to call my Dr who came in about 5 and at 5:12pm we welcomed my beautiful son; Eli Cruz!! He was perfect weighing 7lbs 6oz and 20in long. He didn't immediately cry when he was born so had to be stimulated to cry. He was born unfortunately with a bit of a fever due to being stuck in the birth canal so he was placed under observation and we had to stay an extra day because his bilirubin levels were elevated and wanted to make sure he didn't become jaundice. Overall one of the best days of my life!!
