Major placenta praevia :(
By Toni192 » Posted Jul. 30, 2014 3:47pm - 418 views - 4 comments

My 20 week scan went well, baby is a boy and he's healthy, happy and wriggly!

I'm just trying to come to terms with being told I have major placenta praevia and won't be able to have the nice natural birth I had hoped for :( this is apparently why I had a bleed at 17 weeks and it could happen more further in to the pregnancy!

So no intercourse for the remainder of the pregnancy (hubby not too happy) and another scan at 32 weeks when I will see a consultant and they will decide how to proceed.. Just need to get my head round the fact all my plans will have to change. But in the end it will be the same result; a healthy baby in my arms!

Yes the midwife scared me to death with the worst case scenarios! I feel quite fragile now and really trying not to lift anything or even sneeze too much! Silly I know!

I know what u mean it's major surgery and I will not be looking forward to it! And it will be difficult to have to recover for so long after too! I have a pony he'll be coming in beginning of November so I'll have to try and get someone to look after him!

They haven't discussed del date yet I was told they will at 32 week scan but it could be as early as 37 weeks!

Fingers crossed for us both!! Xx

I completely understand. The past couple of days since I found out Ive been just so worried you know you have to look out for bleeding and take it easy. They gave the worst case scenarios. To be honest if it doesnt move up Im terrified. Ive never did any type of surgery and even though I met with an anesthiologist it really didnt put me at ease at all. So did they discuss an anticipated delivery date for you?

It's just so disappointing, I had been looking into the birth center which seemed lovely and was actually looking forward to contractions and the excitement of labour starting! Lol :D

I hope yours moves! Good luck with your follow up xx

Toni, I went through the same thing. I have partial placenta previa they told me there is a possibility that mine can move up but there is a chance it wont. I have to go back in another 6 weeks for a follow up. The possibility of having a c-section is scary but your right having a healthy baby is the most important.
