cow's milk allergy

Perhaps the last JE was foreshadowing this entry. Turns out Emma has indeed developed an allergy to milk in my diet. On NYE she started having mucusy blood in her poop. It continued the next morning. I took her to the dr, the same one that was unconcerned about the previously mentioned green poop, who suspects she now has an allergy. All my frozen milk from last year is useless at this point. No, I'm not donating it. My hope is to reintroduce milk into her diet sometime in the next few months. So, I'm saving it, for now. :( My nipples, which had healed up around New Years, cracked open again last week as I fought to pump enough to send with her to daycare. I already told them to add hypoallergenic formula to her baby cereal. Today I discussed making up any deficiency in my pumping by supplementing a bottle of formula, if she is willing to take it. :/ Grrrr! I was really relying on the early surplus that helped me build up that freezer supply. It's hard not to feel defeated. My husband is only semi-supportive of my diet change. He totally questioned the dr's diagnosis, especially since she responded so quickly to me cutting out dairy. Last Monday we sent a few bags of milk from November, though, and she had two diapers with blood in them, so I'm convinced. He's repeatedly asked me how long I'm going to be dairy-free. I honestly don't know. The dr thinks this allergy will be temporary, but it's not hard science. I've renewed my efforts to eat more produce and balance my diet with lots of other protein sources, but unfortunately my intestines have responded with increased gas. It's like being pregnant again. I'm reading labels and avoiding go-to meals. It sucks.

Sorry to hear this. I just envy you in the fact that you breastfeed in general lol. Hopefully the allergy is only temporary.

I went thru that a bit but I was fortunate to discover the allergy while I was still pregnant. I suddenly started getting itchy throat and ears plus some thickness in my throat so I gave up lactose. I carried it over for the extent of my breastfeeding but then forgot when he was put on formula. *Sigh* I dare say it's pretty common.

Ugh, I'm so sorry :( Dairy is a hard one because it is in SO much too. A friend of mine had to eliminate soy and dairy because they weren't sure what her son was having such a problem with. I know it was a very hard diet switch, but she was able to use her frozen milk that had soy and dairy in it when he got older so hopefully all that hard work it took to build your stash will not go to waste!!

Ugh! Sorry to hear about that. That sounds horrible. Poor Momma and baby. I hope that really is all that's wrong with her, though.
