Caroline is Seven Months!

Yay, I’m actually on time with my monthly update! We’re still without internet and my parents dangle theirs in front of my face like a carrot on a stick but my visits are becoming fewer and farther between. Since starting the Thrive regimen I mentioned in my last entry, my energy and focus levels have been on the rise and I can’t seem to stop adding more to my plate. *Chuckle* My latest venture is homeschooling because the people who run Sebastian’s elementary school are absolute morons. *Sigh* To make a long story painfully short, we canceled our school choice because he wanted to ride the bus and I figured kindergartens were largely the same. I knew something was wrong almost immediately. Mere days into the first week, my usually good kid was getting notes home that he was talking in class and playing in the lunchroom. At first, I disciplined him for it at home. He lost privileges, spent time in the corner, even got a spanking. Then I got my answer. On the third Friday, his backpack was full of papers, their papers that they had supposedly been working on, and it was ALL coloring sheets! Yes, they were the shapes of letters but they’re coloring all day every day. In preparation for pre-k, I had my sweet boy way ahead of where he was supposed to do and he had an amazing teacher last year that worked so well with him on his phonics that he was reading on his own by the time school started in August. So coloring the letter ‘H’? No wonder he was getting in trouble, he was bored! Easy enough fix, right? I started sending my own extra worksheets along with him to school and it seemed to fix the problem for a while. I figured it was just a refresher for the kids who didn’t attend pre-k or who slept off their smarts over summer, it’d get better. Well then the notes home started picking up again. I then found out that not only was his pre-k teacher being forcibly transferred to his new school but she was being moved up to kindergarten. Hallelujah! I called the principal and requested a change of classes. I was promptly shut down. No negotiations, nothing. Come to find out the principal is new, had done away with all testing for placement and my son was being punished because, due to a high volume of children whose families did not primarily speak English at home, lessons were all being slowed by having to teach new words like ‘alphabet’ and ‘counting’ before actually starting into the meat of the topic. I do not begrudge anyone except the administration so I am taking my child out. The first five grades are probably all I’m qualified to teach so hopefully we can get back on school choice before he goes into middle school. Wow, that wasn’t really short at all and I bet no one cares so onto Caroline! She is officially seven months old in a half hour, eating some solid foods but still breastfeeding frequently. Her favorite is definitely sweet potatoes but she has warmed up to most of the foods we tried. No teeth yet but she chews everything constantly. Her little head isn’t bald anymore and the doctor was so impressed by how well she sits up while looking around, straightening herself if she tips and such. She called it a nine month trick but obviously it’s not. Hah! She has Miss Georgia Pink Princess pageant coming up on Saturday and I am so excited! It won’t become a hobby for us but one is still fun. I included one of the pictures we’re using for Most Photogenic, taken at her six-month shoot. I think it has a good chance! Happy Fall, y’all!
