Yes this is common sense, but stupid me. I had a regular OB appointment last Thursday. I love my dr and look forward to appointments and expected things to be ok. Because I had preeclampsia with my daughter, I check my blood pressure regularly and it’s been low- a good low. So I figured everything would be fine. I woke up at 6:30 A.M., drank a glass of water and ate some cereal. Then I fed and bathed my daughter. She was being super fussy due to teething, so I spent the next hour calming her down, then took a shower. My appointment was at 9:30, and once I got myself and my screaming 9 month-old bundled up and down the stairs, we missed the bus. So I sprinted half a mile to the train station and made it to the Drs office just on time. I went to do the usual pee in a cup thing and noticed that it looked really yellow, but then didn’t think about it. They took my blood pressure- 107/74. Totally fine. Then my OB came in and said there was protein in my urine. Crap. She said it was almost completely unheard of to develop preeclampsia before 20 weeks, but since I had it before she would need to do a complete metabolic panel to make sure everything was ok with my liver and kidneys. She asked if I was dehydrated, since apparently dehydration can cause protein in the urine, and I thought about it and was like yeah. I hadn’t had anything to drink in hours and had been running around like crazy. I don’t think she was too concerned, but I’m a big worrier, so I was on pins and needles all weekend imagining the worst—-preeclampsia can only be cured by giving birth and I was 7.5 weeks away from viability, what would happen, etc. I have been feeling generally ok but have had headaches almost every day, which I had with the preeclampsia. So I just freaked myself out. This morning I got a call from the nurse saying my blood results came back normal, and I was probably just dehydrated. Also, my AFP results for the neural tube defects screening were normal. So good news all around.

But anyway, cautionary tale—drink lots of water, dear ladies! I forget sometimes because I get so busy with my daughter, and last pregnancy when I was working and going to school I had my water bottle with me at all times.

Hopefully nothing else interesting happens between now and the anatomy scan on April 5. My OB appointment is right after that, so if anything weird shows up I will be able to talk to her about it immediately, which is comforting. Also praying the placenta moves up.

Thanks, adiggs! I didn’t know how busy I would be with just 1 baby lol It must be even crazier with 2 and 1 on the way. Thanks for the prayers

<3 I am so glad you were only dehydrated. I have all my prenatal appointments first thing in the morning and I always rush around to get there and she always tells me I am dehydrated and I almost never remember to drink anything beforehand because I am just so crazy busy! Praying for you also that the placenta moves up!
