Bleeding scare, of course!

Hi Ladies- So yes, a bleeding scare happened yesterday, but the story has a happy ending. My first ultrasound is scheduled for this Thursday, but around 4 A.M. yesterday, I went to the bathroom and noticed a small clot followed by some pink blood. This happened with both of my daughters (at 22 weeks with the first and 14 weeks with the second). With my second I had a SCH that resolved in a week. So I decided to stay calm this time, but a few hours later I was having some back pain and decided to go to the ER. My mom, who is not happy about the pregnancy at all, kept the girls while my husband and I went to the hospital. After 3 hours of waiting, I finally got in for an ultrasound. The tech was probably the meanest I’ve ever had! Made me miss my old hospital. She had me on the bed and said “I can’t say anything because this is an emergency and the dr has to tell you the results.” I said “Yes, I realize you can’t give a diagnosis, but may I see the screen?” And she said, “No. this is an emergency.” So I was lying there sobbing. I turned my head once and she literally grabbed the machine and pulled it closer to her. Whenever I’ve gone in for an emergency ultrasound at my old hospital, the techs didn’t hide the screen. They told me I would have to wait for the dr for results, but they didn’t go out of their way to keep the scan a secret. So my mind was just racing, and I sat in a hallway wrapped in a blanket (at least the woman who transported me to the US room gave me a blanket) crying until someone brought me back to my room in the ER. Luckily the dr came back almost immediately with results. There was 1 baby measuring exactly 8 weeks with a heart rate of 169. No SCH detected. I did have a 22 mm cyst on my left ovary, but it’s unlikely to hurt the baby but could be causing the pain. Tech couldn’t find my right ovary (I definitely have one, so whatever). My hcg was in normal range for gestational age. But she agreed that I should get Rhogam (I’m O-negative/hubs is A positive) just to be safe. So I waited another 2 hours for the Rhogam because the blood bank had to mix up the shot and send it over. The nurse didn’t even know what Rhogam is SMH. But yep. I had it soooo good in Chicago. Access to top hospitals and care. There are 2 hospitals where we’re living now and this is supposedly the better one. The good news is this hospital has a renovated women’s pavilion with really nice mom/baby and delivery suites and an OB triage like my old hospital. But before viability, any emergency situations get sent to the regular ER where apparently they treat pregnant women as lesser emergency cases. It sucks, but hopefully I won’t have any more reasons to go to the ER.

Knowing the baby’s in the uterus and has a strong heartbeat is such a relief. Baby is measuring 1 day ahead of when I think O day was and 2 days behind LMP. I see my OB on Thursday and have an ultrasound where I’ll hopefully get to see the baby and hear the heartbeat (of course the ER tech had the sound turned off). Otherwise things are going well. We’re closing on a house Sept. 30th so we’ll be out of my mom’s. My girls love her, as do I, but it will be great to not feel constantly judged. Anyway I hope everyone’s doing well. Would love to read some more journal updates!!

Ugh that’s so scary for a dr to say that even though your RE said everything was fine earlier. As for the bleeding, it was a random small clot and nothing after about 10 minutes. They said maybe the cyst caused it, but I doubt it since the cyst 2 cm. This happened with my 1st baby at 22 weeks, and there was nothing weird on the ultrasound. My dr said maybe my cervix was crazy sensitive, but she really didn’t know and said not to worry since there was not a sign of blood at all. So I guess it’s a mystery. I’m hoping it’s the only time this will happen.

So scary! Glad everything turned out well. I don’t know why people have to be so nasty, like, you’re clearly worried and showing you a little bean wouldn’t be so awful. She can clearly see a heart beat, etc. I was in the hospital early on with my son (like 5 weeks) and I had already seen the sac and everything that same morning at the RE’s office so knew all was okay for that stage, but the ER doctor told me I had a blighted ovum and my HCG was too high to not see a baby. My RE explained that ER doctors usually aren’t specialized in the reproductive stuff and not to worry. Good luck at your upcoming scan! You will get to see your LO. Did they have an idea of what cause the bleeding??
