Lousy Neighbors

I am writing this journal entry because I need to vent this anger out. My family and I live in a lower duplex unit and have neighbors above us. These neighbors that I am talking about are horrible. These neighbors consist of a mother with her adult daughter who has a little girl who is 8.

My DH and I thought it would be better since there was a young child (noise wise) but we were wrong. Dead wrong. The noise is worse. These adults drop things on a daily basis and it goes through the night. These adults let the 8 yr old run all up and down the duplex until way late at night (2am) and of all things a SCHOOL NIGHT.

These adults also have people over on a daily basis and lets them walk right on in at all hours of the day even at 3am. None of us can get any sleep because these people don't care. Even though they KNOW there are young kids and a baby sleeping in the lower unit. The landlord has spoken to them and they still won't cooperate.

We are at our wits end and don't know what else to do.

He has talked with them and they refuse to listen to him period. He also cant do much unless they are doing something illegal. However he did tell us we could call the police and im which case we did and they were quiet ever since.

Part of your rights as a renter is the right to enjoy your home in peace and if your landlord won't do anything about them, then you have a good case for breaking your lease without consequences but you need to document everything, especially that the landlord is unwilling to do anything. Fear of making it worse is silly and shouldn't even factor in the equation, because if they refuse to comply, as the landlord should document, then they could be evicted and/or in trouble for breaking noise ordinances.

The landlord wishes we not call the police because it would make things worse. The young mom is nothing but a partier. Both adults have guys over all the time and well, you guessed it. These people are just horrible.

You should call the police and file a noise complaint, maybe that will make them stop. I used to live in an apartment so I completely understand. My neighbors (a woman and a man) used to have the worst fights all day and all night. You could hear every word they said, every slammed door. It was awful and the landlord speaking to them never helped.
