22 week appointment
By alymarie6388 » Posted Jan. 24, 2018 6:05pm - 450 views - 5 comments

We had our 22 week appointment today. Meatball is doing great! I think he’s training to be the new King fu Panda! I’ve only gained 8 lbs total after the huge loss so I’m doing well too! I had a mini cry session after though because my herpes simplex one test came back positive. I’ve never had a cold sore or anything “downstairs” but I did develop a weird rash on my tongue when I had Bell’s palsy and wanted to know for certain. I’m so unbelievably sad that I can’t kiss my own baby. I have zero sympathy for those that will get upset with the “no kissing rule” now. His father is the only one allowed to kiss him. I also managed to get approved to prick my finger to track my sugar instead of drinking the glucola. With as sick as I still am, I had serious fears that I’d be able to keep it down long enough to test. Very very thankful for my midwife. The baby shower is scheduled for March and we’re so excited that our families are willing to travel for it and get a chance to meet before the wedding next year. There won’t be many opportunities for this so we’re really looking forward to it. The nursery is well on its way. We have the crib done and we just brought home our rocker recliner. I’m scrubbing the carpets this weekend so we can keep putting stuff in there. I can’t wait to see it done!
On a separate, non baby note: we picked a wedding date! October 19, 2019. Nothing significant about the date, just a date that, as long as Pumba stays on this schedule, he will have off and can use less vacation time. I can’t wait! Chance will be our ring bearer, obviously.
I hope you ladies are doing well!!

Aww I'm glad he's doing so well! I can't believe you're already over half way! I'm sorry to hear that about your test, but at least you know and now you won't have any surprise issues come up! I hope you start feeling better soon!

Thank you!!!
Yeah, I know it's super common. I know the exact moment I got it which is the most upsetting part. I had never had it prior to a concert I went to on a date. Met up with his friends, sent around a bottle or two of liquor, and two weeks later I had a rash on my tongue and Bell's Palsy. The ER doctor said someone who drank from the bottle likely had it and it transferred. I wanted to verify though because the ER never ran a blood test for it, just looked at it and diagnosed. My midwife said since I've never had an outbreak elsewhere that I should be safe but I'll be prescribed Valtrex at 36 weeks to be extra cautious. A lot of my family gets cold sores so I won't be playing around. It just makes me super sad. One shitty date and I can't kiss my kid. :(

Also, Herpes Simplex 1 isn't that uncommon from what I remember when I was doing my CNA classes so don't feel bad. You can get it simply from sharing chapstick or a drink with an infected person. I suspect a lot of people have it and don't realize because they aren't tested. But I think it is a good thing to know if you do have it so you can be cautious. I think it's more common for HSV2 to cause herpes "down below" rather than HSV1 (even though I think HSV1 can cause herpes "down below" but it's more uncommon and more often occurs in the mouth.) Not sure if that info is new or if you already know but just thought I would share.

It sounds like you have a lot of exciting things to look forward too :) Congrats again on your engagement and the little one!
And I hate it when people kiss on my babies. I ask them not to and the second I'm not looking they do it anyway so I can't take my eyes off the kids. People don't understand and our families get so offended like I'm insulting their hygiene. I'm like "It's nothing personal. You carry germs like everyone else and those germs could infect a newborn with a sickness that their body can't handle even if you don't feel sick." In fact, my best friend's baby just got RSV because someone with a little cold infected her accidentally. She is in ICU because her little body is really having a hard time fighting it.. only 15 days old. I also make anyone who visits use hand sanitizer. Maybe a little extreme but I fought hard to have these kids. If it were up to me I wouldn't let anyone within 10 feet of them. Like look at them through the window and stay outside. lo
