My town flooded on baby shower eve... May 18th, 2018

It was a crazy day. I live in Martinsville Virginia, USA. And yet, despite the roof leaking, basement flooding, power going off and on, gutters overflowing, a friend almost getting washed away in her car crossing a river that appeared in the road at the bottom of our hill, almost getting my car stuck in a hillside trying to avoid a washout-- we still managed to decorate the church fellowship hall for the baby shower tomorrow and buy all the needed supplies. On a whim, I chose to buy supplies at Kroger and Dollar Tree instead of Walmart and avoided getting stuck in a huge traffic jam and flooded area of the main road there.

I kinda find it ironic that with washed out roads, rivers overflowing, cars stranded and stalled out, gullies and deep cracks appearing through town that I have a nautical/pirate theme for the baby shower with rubber duckies, ships, bubbles, etc. Seriously, who knew?

Oh yeah, the store where I got my dress for the baby shower, Roses--well, the roof collapsed from the weight of the water. 2 people reported with minor injuries only, thank God. The employees there are really nice.

The baby is still gonna go forward. But I'm not sure if the power outages and closed roads in places will keep some from coming out? Also part of the church flooded a little where we're having it, so there's some cleanup to do.
