15w5d - the end of nausea! FINALLY!
By ericalee2 » Posted Oct. 8, 2018 6:40pm - 424 views - 4 comments

I am almost 16 weeks and as of about a week ago the nausea seems to have subsided. HALLELUJAH!! It is beyond amazing to have my appetite back and not gag at the thought of 99% of food. I was very spoiled with my pregnancies with Elle and Enzo apparently because I did not have anything close to this with them. I had food aversions, yes, but this constant nausea and hungover feeling? Never. Of course when the nausea started going away I questioned if something was going wrong with my pregnancy because my "symptoms" were going away, but that's because it gets all in my head with my previous losses from my immune system and this seems "too normal". It's a battle in my head that I continually am working on.

Other fun pregnancy things I have noticed that are completely different this time.... this second set of hair I seem to have sprouted. Holy moly! The first few inches of my hair from my scalp seriously seems to have doubled. I have this fluffy little afro halo that is out of control. It doesn't help that my hair is naturally curly either and these hairs are short so they spring up and add a lot of unnecessary volume to my crown. Thankfully the humidity is dying down now that fall is here. :)

I had an OB appt at 14w2d and my OB got her little doppler out and starts looking for the heartbeat. No luck. Asks me to unbutton my pants since baby is still pretty low -- no problem. No luck. Pulse is definitely starting to increase from panic. Lower left and "there it is!" from my OB. Huuuuuuuge sigh of relief. My OB says "I am so sorry that took so long! I know it is stressful for you. Soon baby will be big enough we won't have to be so precise on the location". Agree! I just want an appt where she puts that little probe on my belly and BOOM - baby's heartbeat. The good news is the heartrate was 162 and she said it sounded like one happy baby.

My husband and I have been continuing to debate if we will find out gender. We thought we might be team green since we have one of each, buuuuuut we're not sure that we are patient enough to actually wait. I think right now the chance of us finding out gender is 80% and it being a surprise 20%. :) The big anatomy scan is the beginning of November so we have a few weeks to figure it out.

I have been travelling way more for work after starting a new position, which I was not aware would be the plan. Thankfully after October it slows down and after December it is basically ZERO travel, so trying to focus on the fact that it is short-term. I asked my OB when I absolutely couldn't fly and she basically told me "tell me when you want to stop travelling for work and I can write you a note" :) It is usually 32 weeks, which works out great for me, but I appreciate she was willing to modify it if I needed since she knew it was adding stress to my day-to-day.

On the immune front -- I am still on prednisone and will start my weaning at 20w following my anatomy scan. I do want to talk to my OB about possibly getting some growth ultrasounds at 24, 28, and 32 weeks to monitor baby's growth once I am off the prednisone to make sure that my immune system isn't causing any IUGR or anything. Also need to figure out the plan for NSTs, biophysical profiles and all of the other details for later pregnancy now that I don't have my immunologist setting a protocol. I am guessing my OB will be very flexible, but TBD!

Feeling more consistent movements, which I love! Having a posterior placenta is awesome! :)

I was so happy when my morning sickness went away too! I feel so much more like myself during this second trimester. I hope you do too. It sounds like your OB is amazing and this baby can't wait to join it's family. <3

Great news! I am glad everything has been going so smooth with the pregnancy. I thought I was going to wait until I gave birth to find out the gender, it was to hard to resist.
