Am I dilating?
By babylove14 » Posted Jun. 6, 2018 1:50am - 366 views - 3 comments

So I saw my doctor and they didn't seem concerned about my contractions. I haven't had contractions since then. We'll do my group b strep test at my 36 week appt. I got home and looked at my ultrasound pictures. To my surprise, I noticed a gap above the baby's head and now I'm wondering if I'm dilating already. I've never had my cervix do anything before 39wks with my other babies so I'm shocked. It could be nothing but I'm getting all my baby prep done just in case. Hopefully she stays until July. I know people who have gone weeks dilated as much as 3-4cm.

Yes definitely ask for a cervix check! Or demand one if you get an obnoxious doctor. I just have a 1 year-old and the thought of not being able to walk around is terrifying. Hang in there!

My doctor never mentioned it. I don't know if he just didn't notice or just wasn't concerned. I asked him about me having contractions ever 2-3 minutes and he wasn't concerned about that either. I thought they would check my cervix and I'm even more surprised after noticing my ultrasound. The way my clinic works is I don't see the same doctor every time I go so I plan on asking whomever I get at my next appt to check my cervix. I told him my concern is that I have all the pre labor symptoms preterm but he said it's not uncommon for this to happen at 8 months. I'm hoping this is one of those cases where, even though I'm very uncomfortable, I just continue to have pre labor symptoms and/or dilation for weeks before birth. I get a lot of pelvic pressure when I walk and cramping that feels just like period cramps. I've never had anything like this before 9 months so I'm nervous but I can't not walk when I have 3 kids 5 and under at home.

Did your doctor not check your cervix? I can see what you’re talking about in the pic, but if you were dilated to a point that there was concern and it was visible on the ultrasound, a doctor would probably have told you. I also had a friend who was 3 cm for several weeks before her scheduled c-section. Never progressed beyond that. I hope baby decides to stay in for a few more weeks!
