Went Into Labour
I had been feeling lousy that day and started having light cramps. Then my water broke in the toilet and I experienced some light spotting around 6:30 or 7 pm. I was in denial that this was real labor. I texted the midwife and my husband and I went to the Mexican restaurant with friends. During dinner the midwife asked us to come in to be checked. The cramps went from painful to excruciating contractions very quickly. We packed the car and got to the birth center around 10:30 /11:00 pm. Baby was born at 4:07 am the next morning.

Labor was rough as baby had to complete a turn and got somewhat stuck crowning for a while as a result. Also, I vomited all night long during labor. I ended up pushing for three hours, and needing some stitches.

Baby Bruce weighed 7lbs 4.2 oz, 20 inches long, with a head circumference of 13.5 inches at birth. I'm grateful he came early, or I would have not been able to push him out.

Packed for the Hospital/Birth Center
Baby's bag is totally packed! I've mostly packed mine. Still working on it though as some items will have to go in at the last minute.

Lion suit with baby mitts and animal hat with ears. "I am roar some!" it says. Feels nice to buy my own outfit after everyone else has picked out stuff.

Baby Dropped
We were fishing at the Fieldale Reservoir. I couldn't sit anywhere comfortable. Nothing worked. That night, I ate a full dinner for the first time in a long time. I was so sore and miserable, I could not sleep that night. The next morning, I hurt so bad, like someone kicked me in the tender bits. I also realized I could take deep breaths without pain. After reading about the soreness down there and dropping, I ended up making a gel ice pack to sit on. Today, (Sunday) I noticed my stomach is no longer a tall skinny rectangle. It's more egg shaped with most of the weight towards the bottom. Dropping means baby is likely coming in 2-4 weeks. Since he dropped exactly 30 days from the due date, I told Josh that this was definitely his child. It's like the baby has a planner or agenda in there he is working out of, checking off dates and milestones with a pencil stub. He does everything by the book. Heehee.

Finished the Nursery
Ok, so it's not 100% done. But Josh put the crib together. It was like the labors of Hercules. We had to move the heavy dresser to the other side of the room. I also washed a lot of the sheets, blankets, towels, toys and clothes for baby. I put the new comforter on the bed and fresh sheets. I took a lot of the big diapers down to the basement, packed away my winter clothes, made more room in the drawers, worked on packing baby's bag, etc. Unfortunately, the changing pad Debbie mom got is way too big for the changing table. I guess it'll be a backup if we need it. I also threw out a bunch of old nasty sheets, the old lamp, and stuff. I still haven't finished decorating, but the rug is out. I need a lamp and to put the wall hangings up. Almost there! I feel good about this. Not having it done was making me crazy. And therefore I was driving Josh nuts. I've been working on this for two days straight. My tummy got bigger again. The poor skin is stretched tight and shiny. Baby is coming.

Installed Car Seat
It wasn't as easy as I thought. Just to read the manual, you need a degree in rocket science. Finally, I realized that the metal clips mean you can bypass all the strap instructions. Thank goodness for a base that clips in!

Started Childbirth Classes
Fun times. got to know some of the other moms and dads with similar due dates. Learned a whole lot. Also, got to know Ann, who will likely be the doula attending our birth.

First Ultrasound
We went to Ultrasound America, LLC. Baby is amazing! We are having a boy! We were so wrong. All along we talked about it being a girl. Now we have to come up with a boy name. We were laughing in shock, then crying with emotion after seeing his little face and hands and feet wiggle. He definitely already looks like both of us. His cheeks and the tip of his nose look like Josh and the Hannah side of the family. His overbite and overall length and shape of the nose are the Mills traits from my side of the family.

The sonographer, Susan, confirmed what I already know about baby's position. He is upright in a classic breech. He has one foot on my bladder, and one on my cervix. He is very active! I feel those kicks in those sensitive spots all the time. It hurts!

One thing I did not know is that my placenta is close, bordering up against the cervix. Apparently this is no cause for concern, as it will probably move out of the way. But it is something to keep an eye on in case.

Husband Felt Baby Kick from Outside
Mar 2, 2018. This morning, baby woke me up at 5 am kicking hard. When Josh's alarm went off, I put his hand on my belly. He got to feel baby kick against his hand a few times. He got all misty eyed. Baby was really wriggling and moving around a great deal.

The rest of the morning was a bit rough. I threw up a lot, worked a long shift at work. My car broke down and had to be jumped. Mom in law came to visit this evening. I'm still queasy. She brought a lot of fun presents, like a bassinet and the crib...

Also, we had a big wind storm today, a true nor'easter. School was out due to so many power outages and trees being down. The power kept going out, but we kept our lights on. Lots of people in the city and county lost theirs. So the DG was a madhouse. Tomorrow is my day off. Thank goodness.

Heard Baby's Heartbeat for the First Time
https://vocaroo.com/i/s1lZdELMx4qI Audio recording.
I ordered a used Sonoline B fetal Doppler from Ebay. It came early in the mail. We tried to find the heartbeat the 26th but to no avail. Third time the next day, we finally found it. Clocked baby's heartbeat at 157 bpm. It feels real now. There is proof of a baby in there! An actual life form that isn't me! It's hanging out by my bladder, straight south of the belly button. We recorded the audio so we wouldn't have to play it over and over.

Started Wearing Maternity Clothes
Had to go to Walmart and buy some stretchy pants. My jeans are having to be retired one pair at a time. I can't believe how large I've gotten. It's depressing. I also bought a band. Most stores are phasing out maternity wear. It is very difficult to find.

Announced Pregnancy to Family
Picked Mom and Dad up at the airport. We went out to Harper's in Greensboro and broke the news over delicious steak dinner. They were thrilled. Then we called Debbie Mom and James. They were loudly thrilled. I was pretty queasy that night so I let Josh do all the talking.

Congratulations! I'm in Virginia too. I used Seven Cities Midwifery for my last birth, but ended up getting transferred to a hospital. But I had a successful home birth with my first son - no issues. Look into your options just in case, so you have a back up plan, and just don't worry about the money or it'll stress you out. Good luck and have a safe, healthy birth!
