9 Weeks Pregnant

Your Pregnancy Week by Week

*Counting from the first day of your last menstrual period

Your Baby at 9 Weeks

Your baby is the size of a green grape at 9 weeks pregnant - Pregnancy Week By Week Size: 0.9 inches (2.3 cm)
Weight: 0.07 ounce (2 grams)

Your baby is reaching the last weeks of the critical embryonic period. Development continues as the baby's organs are finalizing development in preparation for the massive amount of growth that is about to take place during the fetal period. All of baby's limbs are visible and the tiny tail that was once prominent at the end of her spine is now disappearing. Your baby is now about the size of a green grape!

Your baby's heart has now differentiated into four chambers that will be needed for proper functioning once outside of the womb. Can you believe that just a short while ago your little one was just a small bundle of cells, but has now grown into a compact, tiny little human? Life truly is amazing!

Mom at 9 Weeks Pregnant

Mom at 9 weeks pregnant - Pregnancy Week By Week Those hormones are still in full swing this week and you may still be feeling quite ill from morning (or better yet, all day) sickness. Continue eating small meals to not overwhelm your digestive system and calm your queasiness. You may want to start broadening your menu selections if you can handle more of a variety of foods to increase your nutritional intake.

For some women, ever so slight body changes may be apparent starting this week. While you still shouldn't be gaining much weight, you may start to notice that your hips are starting to broaden. Your clothing may begin to feel a little different as your body adapts to the changes necessary to make room for your impending arrival. It may just be time to start thinking about maternity clothing.

Common Symptoms:
You will be experiencing many of the same symptoms that you had during week 8. These symptoms may be worse, better or not changed at all. Keep in mind that your body is performing a miraculous feat, so don't be too hard on yourself if you still feel that you do not have enough energy to accomplish the everyday tasks that you once were able to do so easily.

Some women report an increase in gassiness as their pregnancies progress. Eating foods that are easier on the digestive system may help with the fullness and bloating. Try to avoid carbonated beverages, beans or cruciferous vegetables if you find that they are increasing your level of discomfort.

Other common symptoms you may experience this week:
  • Mood Swings
  • Headaches
  • Food Cravings
  • Increased Saliva
Weight Gain:
It's still early to be experiencing much weight gain. While your body may be retaining a bit more water than usual, you still shouldn't be putting on much weight. If you have gained more than five pounds by this point, you may want to discuss this with your obstetrician and get ideas on how to control weight gain from this point on in your pregnancy. There is no reported scientific data that suggests that putting on a lot of weight is good for your baby's health.

Tips/Advice:
Try lemonade and potato chips. If morning sickness has its hold on you, research has shown that the bright citrus flavor of lemonade in combination with the saltiness of potato chips may help to curb those tummy-troubling moments (or hours, as the case may be).

9wks 4days today and my pants are already getting tight even though the number on the scale hasn't changed, though some of that can probably be attributed to bloating. I can't wait for my week 10 OB appointment next week, I hope we get to hear the heart beat!

I am so freaking exhausted and drained. I am 9 weeks 0 days with baby No. 2 and I feel like I'm feeling 3x as much as I did with my first pregnancy (didn't really feel a thing). This time around, I'm nauseous, tired, and experiencing backaches. Whew! I'm ready for this 1st trimester to be over!

9 weeks 4 days today with No2, time is flying by. I'm still not having many symptoms, which is worrying me slightly but feeling lucky at the same time. First antenatal visit is scheduled for next week, I can't wait.
