Q: Will my first u/s be internal or external??

I'm just wondering because I will be 10wks 5days-11wks for my first one. My 5 year old daughter really wants to come with us, but if it's going to be transvaginal, I'd rather her not...

Any info is greatly appreciated!!

For my 1st u/s they did both transvaginal and abdominal, but I was around 5wks 6 days. With my son I was around 8 weeks for the first u/s and they did both then as well.

Mine was internal at 11 weeks, I took my 5 year old son. I just made sure he was distracted at first (insert) and then made sure I kept the sheet covering everything so I think you should be just fine! :)

Thanks ladies!! I called earlier today and asked if it's ok for my daughter to come, and they said yes. I guess I'm just more worried about her asking silly questions and embarrassing me if I were to have a transvaginal u/s. I'm hoping for an external one, but it sounds like it just depends on the doc/hospital and what they do...

Thanks again for all your answers!!

I had a transvaginal for my first few u/s at 7 and 10 weeks and again at 12 weeks. If you want to bring your daughter, just call and ask them beforehand. Different places do things differently, so the only way you'll know is to ask:-)

my first was at 11 wks and it was abdominal. Just make sure you have a full bladder when you go. If they decided an internal they will tell you to go to the bathroom

My first at 6 weeks was transvaginal. I am a plus size lady so that may be why.

My first one was transabdominal (external) and that was at 7 weeks. They could see everything fine. I think it depends a lot on the position of your uterus and your weight (it can be a bit harder to see with larger ladies). You might want to check with your hospital; mine doesn't allow children in the scan.
