Q: Daycare vs. staying home/something else?

I am uncomfortable with taking my child to daycare until it is able to talk. But feel I don't really have any other option, I have a part time job and a potential second part time job. My fiancé works 10-14 hours every day of the week and our hours over lap. If I get this second job I may just go back to that one after baby is born and work nights since they are open 24/7, that way my fiancé can watch baby so we don't have to send it anywhere else. But that's a big if. Does anyone know of any alternatives/other ideas? My fiancé wants me to be a stay at home mom but I feel like I would go stir crazy and want to contribute. Part of me says we can't afford daycare, but part of me says we can't afford for me to not be working. ):

Have you thought of a mommy swap??? another mommy who might have a part time job on the days you don't?? Trade the baby sitting on your off days?? It can be tricky but I've heard of it working for some. I've only used the idea for date nights so I can't speak from experience, but it's a thought! Good Luck!

We're still looking for alternative ideas, and cheap day care. Just seeing if anyone knew something outside the box.

It's not really a matter of not trusting a day care or thinking they are bad, just that I don't want to pay other people money to do something I am perfectly capable of doing on my own- plus my fiancé had a bad experience with daycare, so that's part of the reason he's uncomfortable with it. We have been doing some looking around and all of the places we have talked to so far (just asking about rates, not touring or anything yet) are so expensive I would be losing money by sending my child there, which defeats the aspect of making money and contributing to the family. I'd be contributing more by staying home lol. So it looks like its a night job or staying at home for this mama.

2 of 2. on site to over see the staff. There are so many advantages of child care. Don't look at just the bad side of child care. Not all child care centers are bad. People who make comments of bad child care centers give good child care centers a bad rep. Do your research and you will find one that you trust and love. Just remember ask lots of questions and tour lots of center to see what is best for you. I do recommend a smaller center. Children get so much more attention. Best of luck no matter what you descide to do. If you have any questions about daycare, please feel free to message me. I could give you some questions to ask or what to look for. Good luck.

1 of 2: I own my own child care center. Not every child care center is bad, there are a lot of good child care centers. I would look for a small center which can give more one on one with your child and where you can have good communication with the staff and director. I would ask other parents where they take their child and get references. Some advantages of putting your child in daycare is that they learn to play with other children, children can be on a good schedule, learn to follow rules. Where I am located we have to do a lesson plan so the children learn lots of things. I would prefer a licensed center over a nanny any day. You at least know that your child's teacher is being supervised and that the state checks in and makes sure they are running a good child care center, and your child isn't just sitting watching tv all day. Make sure you take a tour, and ask lots of questions. Look at how the teachers are interacting with the children, is the center clean, is there a director

I personally wouldn't leave my child in daycare because I volunteered in a daycare in my High School days and honestly, the teachers don't care about the kids, they are very rude and mean to the kids. There was a lot of yelling in the daycare, especially with the toddlers since toddlers like to explore around. But this is a daycare I volunteered at. I know another daycare that my DH's son goes to because his mother is a full time student, that daycare is the best i've seen. My step-son has been going there since he was about 6-7 months old. Now he is 2 1/2 years old and His speech is amazing; he talks like a 4 year old (in complete sentences). They teach him everything. The teachers are so friendly. I guess it depends on which daycare u choose. My Dh was telling me if both parents work, sometimes state gives free daycare for the child/children. I don't know the process to that..It also depends on your state.
