Q: Covering for Maternity Leave

I recently took a job for a one year contract term covering for a lady who is to go on maternity leave in April.

My husband and I have been TTC for 4 years and with several losses, we did not think that it would happen. Now I am 4w2d pregnant and this woman`s maternity leave has not started yet. If I tell her right now, I`m afraid she will stress and that could affect her pregnancy. The longer I wait, the more likely it is that she will not get her full one year of maternity leave. I am looking for any input you can offer!

Thank you

I had the same thing happen to me but i was the lady that originally needed cover. the girl who came to us started and then 2 weeks later announced she was 13 weeks pregnant. She was only temp until end of march but think she was after a permanent position. I did ask what was going to happen if the cover lady wasn't able to cover as she also would be on maternity a month after i had left. but my manager just said she wasn't covering my maternity. Confusing lol. Seemed a little pointless for her to be employed by our company to cover maternity when she couldn't actually "cover". Its a different situation because she "knew" she was pregnant when she accepted the job.
I hope they do find a way round it. your stressing yourself over stressing the pregnant lady, your pregnant too! try to relax and not stress too much. I let my manager know when i was 6 weeks as she would need to make arrangements. If you do decide to tell your manager by law she has to keep it strictly

You are super early yet, so you need to wait until you are at least 10-12 weeks until you consider letting anyone know. Doing it now is a bit early, as anything can happen.

Also, they can hire out someone else to cover for you...and this lady. They did it once, they can hire out again.

I would wait til you're out of your first trimester. I hope everyone will be understanding.
