Q: Having a different doctor deliver deliver

I just found out today that although my doctor is in network with my insurance, the hospital is not and I will need to deliver at a different hospital. The doctor I am currently seeing doesn't deliver at the other hospitals though. They told me that basically I will keep seeing my regular doctor but meet a few times with the doctor who will deliver me at the other hospital. I'm actually a little happy that I'll be delivering at a different hospital as it is nicer, but I'm worried about having a doctor that I haven't had time to be as comfortable with deliver me. Had anyone else had someone different than expected deliver your baby? What's everyone else's experience? This is just a little stressful for me, and I got insurance in the middle of my pregnancy so it wasn't something I could check in advance.

There's gonna be women who had bad experiences and good experiences. I wouldn't let that scare you. I'd say to meet with the new doctor and if you don't like and feel comfortable with him, shop around a little. There's always gonna be a chance that the person you wanted to deliver won't be able to. :-( Good luck!

The doctor I saw for my whole pregnancy didn't deliver my first baby. I had a different doctor I never met. I honestly didn't even care at the time since I was epidural free and delivered without meds so I was in a different world. But afterwards when the doc was delivering the placenta I guess my husband and him had some "words" since the doctor was yanking at the placenta and my husband was like "what are you doing? I don't think you should be doing that." the doctor wasn't kind and didn't explain himself, just told my husband to be quiet. I switched to a midwife and had a much better experience the next go around. In my experience, midwives are more compassionate and caring during pregnancy and post partum. But it really depends on the personality of your doctors :)

My doc wasn't on call either so I had some random doc deliver my baby. This is the case for a large majority of moms. Frankly after hours of labor and the dozen or so people that had their hand up in me I could have cared less who was there when she finally came!

If you like your doctor continue seeing them for prenatal care and deliver at the other hospital with what ever doc is on duty.

My Dr wasn't on call when I went into labor. I had no problem with different Dr. I think a lot of women end up with different Dr delivering them if you go into labor on weekend or during the night it usually is who ever is on call.

I only ever seen my doctor every 8 weeks or so, so I was looked after by mid wives thru out my pregnancy, when I delivered I had only just met the midwives in th birthing suit, but they were so compassionate, I hated my doctor and couldn't get another as he was the only one in the town that specialised in what my daughter had, so in the end I'm glad he wasn't there! Good luck tho :-)
