Q: Doubting my skills as a mother

As I get closer to my due date, I am doubting my motherly skills more and more everyday! I can't panic enough! I feel that I won't be good enough to take care of my baby.. I have zero idea about new borns.. I always avoided carrying any new born in the family.. they make me so nervous and terrified .. I never held a new born or fed them or rocked them to sleep.. I always took care of my cousins but only after the age of 3 months.. Any tips or websites to help new mothers.. I want to start reading from now so that I'm ready enough for her.. My mom said she would help but only for a week cause shell have to travel for a meeting..and won't be able to help out.. I see how others do it and they seem confident.. I wish I was like that..

I am 32 weeks pregnant with my first and I feel like this sometimes too. Don't worry it is very normal to be worried about it...it's a scary thing to become a mom for the first time! I started reading the book "What To Expect The First Year" and it is making me feel a lot more prepared. I would definitely recommend reading it !

I felt the same way completely. I had zero baby experience and really wasn't a baby person(and still isn't, except for my own teehee). I think I was a little different than the other ladies on here though. Even though we planned him (now 3 years old) it was anything but natural for me. My husband changed the first 10 diapers and gave him his first bath and I was scared stupid to hold him. The good news is that it got easier fairly quickly but I read a lot of books and asked my midwife a ton of questions which helped big time. It's different for everyone hon, you may get it right off the bat or it may take some time to adjust to motherhood. Either way, it's the greatest feeling to be a mom so don't sweat it:)

I'm 28 weeks and feeling the same way on some days. I just can't believe I'm going to be responsible for my little girl--that she's going to be dependent on me for so much. It's overwhelming! Then I remember the Lord provides for every need. It's a huge comfort to know my husband and I don't have to do it alone.

As others have said, it will come naturally to you when your baby is born. The first few weeks are usually a little crazy whilst you get used to each other and settle into usual patterns. I actually think its good to have as much help around the house as possible so you can relax and cuddle your baby. One of the best things i have ever been advised was "At newborn everything is just a phase" - in other words don't stress about getting into 'bad habits' ie baby always sleeping with you. I-am-pregnant.com is fab for advice/chat/information x

I wasn't nervous until I was sitting in the wheel chair on the way out of hospital. I started panicking! It comes naturally you figure things out. don't be afraid to call family and friends and ask for advice if you need it. I called my sister constantly in the beginning.
