Q: How much does an employer in Ontario have to accommodate for issues related to pregnancy?

I was just told today by my cardiologist that he now wants me to take a 1 hour break during work to lay down with my feet up. Even with a fancy doctors note I can't imagine an employer legally having to allow that. Anyone experienced in this matter? I've scoured the Ontario Human Rights Commission and it said they have to accommodate up to undue hardship but there's such a blurry line as to what that really means.

Ah boo. I guess all you can do is ask and try to be flexible.

I'm not sure how it works in Ontario but my doctor put me one light duty(no heavy lifting, rest break every couple hours, etc) and because my employer couldn't accommodate this I was put on disability for the remainder of my pregnancy. Not really what I wanted but it's what was safest.

I wish! I get 20 minutes and I know I can eat in 10 and lay down for the remaining 10 but I'd still have to ask for 50 additional minutes(though I'd be fine with 40). So awkward:S

Any chance you could take that one-hour break and leave work a little later (or start earlier) to compensate?

Honey, you worked hard for this baby. Do what you need to do to keep you both safe. The alternative could be a hospital stay laying down with your feet up.

I'm guessing that you think your employer is not going to be receptive to this. Is taking early mat leave or short term disability an option? Hugs to you, and listen to your Dr's, not your boss!

How much time do you get for lunch? If you get an hour lunch you could do it then, right?
