Q: 6w+5d ...Doc says no fetal pole and heartbeat and wants to schedule D&C next week :(

Just got back from the u/s and it shows nice round sac and yolk but doc says no fetal pole and heartbeat. She said blighted ovum, call me for another u/s on Monday and wants to schedule D&C next week.

My beta at 6w3d was 36000 and was doubling perfectly. My progesterone as of today is 12.19. I have some pregnancy symptoms - short of breath, sore boobs, nausea, tired etc..

I read online some women didn't see fetal pole and heartbeat till week 8-9. Should I wait with the D&C??...hoping something will turn up. When did you see your baby's heartbeat? Doc wants D&C so she can investigate the reason behind the blighted ovum.
I am crashed :(

My cycle is 28 days on the spot. I implanted on day 24, I know because the temperature went up+shivers. I got my first faint positive the next day (cd25) late afternoon. How can possibly mess up the dates ...I don't understand

This is why most clinics wait to see you until about 8 weeks or more. I stressed with this pregnancy because I've miscarried before and it messed me up mentally for a long time. So everything stressed me out but at 8 weeks when I went in for the ultrasound I saw my baby with a good strong heartbeat. With your dates you probably implantated later which would explain why your lil one is measuring smaller than you thought. From your HCG and progesterone and the fact that your embro is still getting bigger and developing I'd say stop stressing as much.

ead293, He didn't say the pregnancy is viable. Due to the lack of heartbeat he couldn't tell ...But saw the embryo unlike the previous doctor and told me to Wait. I am feeling sooooo sick (headache and vomiting) that I can't think at the moment. I just hope the heartbeat picks up the next few days

The second doc saw the embryo!!! It measures 6w+1d...not 6w+5d, so I am 5 days behind. He said to Wait with the D&C and told me to go back after one week. He completely ruled out the blighted ovum as there is a yolk and now embryo in there. I have a horrible headache and want to vomit, my blood pressure is low, haven't eaten all day ...from one hospital to another. What a day!

I would wait another week and have another ultrasound before getting the D&C. Like the other women said, if there is a yolk sac present, that is an indication of a viable pregnancy.

The u/s at 6w+3d measured as it should be. Sac and yolk measured perfectly. Today's u/s 6w+5d doc said didn't grow much but it could be because there are only 2 days between ultrasounds. Doc says with beta 35000 fetal pole and heartbeat should be seen, pregnancy not viable and D&C due next week. I'm currently waiting in another hospital for second opinion, don't expect any different opinion but just to make sure my doc didn't make a mistake or something .,.,

I looked at your pictures, and your yolk sac/g-sac look great. Is it possible your dates are slightly off? A blighted ovum typically does not have a yolk sac, and in the rare chance that it does, it's usually abnormally large, and the gestational sac is misshapen. Blighted ovums are usually completely empty and measuring small, I had one in 2010, and by 9 weeks the g-sac was measuring somewhere around 6 weeks and nothing ever developed inside. No yolk sac or anything. Not only that, my hcg levels were rising, but nowhere near yours. I think I got to around 6500 or so by 9 weeks. Go to the site misdiagnosedmiscarriage.com -- there's a lot of stories there about women who had scheduled a D&C, only to have a confirmation ultrasound prior to it and found a baby. I definitely wouldn't jump the gun and get the D&C until you know for sure.
