Meal plan continued... For dinner I drink an 8 ounce glass of milk and I will eat rice, pasta or a small potato as my carb. The dietician told me if you have a 9 inch plate a 1/4 of it would be your 30 grams of a carb item. That was really helpful to me. I would still call your doc and see what they want your levels to be because I am finding everyone is different. Hope this helps and good luck!

I was diagnosed at 28 weeks with GD. I tried to control it with my diet but couldn't do it. I had to go to a GD class and meet with a dietician as well. Each person is different it seems. My resting level is supposed to be under 95 and an hour after I eat I am supposed to be under 120. After meeting with the dietician I can eat 30 grams of carbs for breakfast, 15 for morning snack, 30 for lunch, 30 for afternoon snack, 45 for dinner and 30 for evening snack. I have gotten used to the diet now but it wasn't enough so I am on insulin. I would check to see if classes are offered and meet with a dietician. That is huge. For breakfast I usually eat a piece of toast and some cottage cheese, or an apple with some almonds. Morning snack is cheese cubes and some type of fruit that is 15 grams, for lunch I eat a sandwich (each piece of bread is 15 carbs each) and I eat cottage cheese and a sugar free pudding with it.

I have GD and test four times a day. My doctors want my fasting number under 90 and then I test 2 hours after each meal and they want those numbers under 120. They had me meet with a dietician. She said for breakfast to keep my carbs to 30 grams and then lunch and dinner to 60 grams. I can also have 3 snacks and to keep those to 30 grams. One of the most helpful things I was told was not to eat carbs by themselves-to eat some protein or fat with them. I've eaten a lot of eggs-good source of protein and no carbs. Hope that helps.

I was diagnosed with diabetes when I was 20yrs old, so I don't have GD but I still have diabetes. I'm 26 now and I was controlling it with diet and exercise but after finding out I was preggo this time around I was put on 500mg of Metformin.
(My first was born at 36weeks and weighed 7lbs. 10oz. and had to stay in the NICU for 2 weeks. I only gained 15 pounds with her and the doctors were even surprised at how big she was. I was all baby. )
My doctor wants my numbers under 100 when I wake up in the morning (so fasting) and then 120 or lower 2 hours after eating. But, you should probably talk with your doctor about what ranges he wants you in, everyone's different.

Hi i was diagnosed at 26wks and had to test 7 times a day at first but then went down to 4. They really should've told you what your range should be? I was told to test an hour after meals and it should be below 7.8. I went back after 4 wks and had a few readings i couldn't explain why high and am now taking metformin once a day, baby had had a big growth spurt so diet alone wasn't working for me, just one of those things but have been taking it 3 wks now and all ok but i'll still be induced at 38wks.
I was told to make sure i had a good cooked breakfast and no cereal as they bump levels up.....which is true i tried it lol no mashed potato and to have plenty of healthy snacks......veg sticks, ryvita with philly and some fruit - with fruit dont eat it too close to meal times tho. I cut out sugar and used sweetner but if i wanted a treat i have one, if you can explain a high reading its ok. The diet i'm doing is pretty much slimming world, brown bread, rice, pasta etc GL
