Q: Anyone know the chances of having a second miscarriage after week 8?

I was just curious if anyone knew the statistics for the chances of having a second miscarriage further along in the first trimester. my first miscarriage was at 9 weeks with my second pregnancy. I'm almost 8 weeks now and know that the chance of miscarriage is supposed to go down after 8 weeks, but what about if you've had a late miscarriage before? I'm just scared and worried that I'm going to go into my first U/S next week and hear that theres something wrong...so I was wondering what others experiences or thoughts on this are...

Hello,
Your post just caught my attention i had a friend who went through the same situation, First of all, i want to be clear that miscarriage can happen during any phase of pregnancy. I have seen a woman losing her baby at 5 months of pregnancy. So its myth that miscarriage can happen only at an early stage. I would suggest you run quickly to your gynecologist and have a talk with her. It’s better to have a quick talk when you are facing this problem so that at least you will have the idea of you internal development. Maybe you are just more concerned and thinking much. I know nothing will come out negative. Everything is okay keep yourself-calm and relaxed and talk with your gynecologist. i hope my reply help. Sending you best wishes.

It is very likely that people that miscarry once will never miscarry again. I recently miscarried and I was so scared but after you see the heartbeat and hear the heartbeat the chances of miscarriage are dropped dramatically. It is proven that all women have 1 miscarriage in their life most women have it before they know that they are pregnant. Just relax because stress is a cause of it. Just relax and try to enjoy your pregnancy if you are really scared tell your doctor and he can probably get you an ultrasound so that you can see everything is okay.

Oh yes, I also invested in a doppler. I have been able to listen to my baby's heart beat every morning since 8wks pregnant. That helps ease my mind. I have a subchorionic hemorrhage so I am still super nervous!

*sageviolet I really like your website that you posted. It was very helpful in sooting some of my anxieties, and it told me I only have an 8% chance of miscarriage....which is nice. :)

Just wanted to add another useful website: http://www.pregnancycharts.org/miscarriageCalculator.php
This one takes your history into account and gives your current chance of m/c. Hope you feel more confident soon! I'm back and forth each day. I'm just trying to take it one day at a time and enjoy being pregnant.

I definitely appreciated it, I thought it was a pretty helpful sight :) yeah with my still birth everything was going perfectly until a surprise blood clot in the placenta at the end, which caused a fetal hemorrhage. I'm also sorry to hear about your 18 week loss...I think a loss at any point is quite devastating. Thanks for the warm wishes :) Also I wish the best of luck to you on your current pregnancy and hope that it turns out well :)

Wow. 38 weeks that's so awful. I'm sorry that happened. I'm sure if you're not experiencing symptoms that you have in the past you'll be fine. My intentions were not to make you feel uneasy as I am in the same percentage. I provided the site on the last post so you would know it wasn't something pulled from hearsay and it's not just on one site. I was just trying to answer your question. I will be praying for your gummy bear to stick til term :-)

I definitely appreciate it. I actually lost my first one at almost 38 weeks...but that was a very healthy pregnancy until the end. She was stillborn 7lbs 3ozs....so even if I get past the 9 week mark I still have a long ways to go before I feel safe...but definitely would feel better if I got a good report at the U/S next week. I've been taking my prenatals since I lost my daughter last march and have been supplementing with alot of other vitamins, herbs, and omegas...so I feel pretty confident about that. I know with my miscarriage too I spotted for quite a while in the beginning around weeks 4 and 5...I appreciate the encouragement...I've been so scared about everything after my past experiences

I just mis-carried last week and was told by my doctor that I have the SAME rate of mis-carriage as a person who has never had one. So, I don't know where the last poster got her information. In Fact, the chances may drop. You will be just fine. Im making sure I have enough Folic Acid, etc this time around so there is less of a chance of MC. Goodluck to ya! HUgs..
