Q: Facebook/keeping pregnancy secret

I just found out I am pregnant after several months of trying, and I am so excited! We haven't told anyone yet.
My due date is in June. I am applying for a promotion at work next month, and if I get it, I will start training for the new position in January, and take over in March.
I am friends with many coworkers and superiors on Facebook. I am so nervous that after I tell family and friends, they will congratulate me or whatever on Facebook. I know I will not get the promotion if they find out I am pregnant at work.
So the question is: should I delete my Facebook page? Are there good enough privacy settings so I can keep all comments and tags private?
Thanks mamas!

I would delete your account altogether. Like someone else said, this stuff has a way of finding it's way out whether or not you put parameters in place against it. Your job is another story. Sounds like you have some difficult decisions to make, and you can gather opinions from people but you're the one who will have to decide in the end! There's truth in the comment that was made about being honest with your employer. I find the easiest way to deal with things is just to pray about it and things will become clearer and easier! Congrats and good luck!

You can create lists, and only share information with specific people on Facebook. Go to Home from the upper right in the blue bar at the top of the FB window. Then go to the grey Friends heading and click on More (just to the right in blue). From there you can create a list. When you post something you can either include or exclude members of the lists you create. You can also change your settings so that if a friend/family member posts something with you tagged in it you can review it before it appears on your timeline and adjust who can see it, to help prevent someone from sharing the info for you. You can change that from the down arrow in the blue band at the upper right of the window. Select settings and then go to Timeline and Tags, the first option should allow you to update settings. All of that being said, if you are concerned you will not get the promotion it is probably safeties to disable your account until you have the job. GL with the job and the baby!

You can ajust you FB settings. But it's more than lilky it'll still get out. Things always find a way out of the bag. This is not my business but is it fair to not be honest to your work. I wouldn't promote a woman I knew was going to leave for a year on maternity leave with the possibility of longer. You may love Mother hood so much and decide not to return. As I said this isn't my business just probably an unwanted opinion. I would be honest with your employer. Best of luck but you can definitely ajust your FB settings.

I think there is a way to limit your profile, or to assign certain friends (in this case your coworkers and superiors) limited access to your posts. You can always ask your friends and family to please keep the news off of FB as well - that's what we will be doing.
