Q: Breast Pumps

I'm in the process of picking out a breast pump. My insurance covers the cost of many different brands from Medela, Ameda, Spectra... the list seems endless. For my 1st, I ended up renting a hospital breast pump that was amazing... but I am not renting again. Can you please give me an idea of the ones that you have used and love to help me make a choice from this list. I plan on being mobile with it so that I don't have to be stuck at home to pump. Thank you in advance!

I was hoping you would chime in dakotagurrl!! You have always been full of good advice! Definitely looking into the Medela Pump In Style Advanced double breast pump that both you and Catsmeow suggested. The hospital pump I used for my first was annoyingly loud but if it is said ithe the Medela is discrete, I am all for it! Thank you ladies for the input!

I bought the Medela Pump In Style Advanced, and loved it! I didnt find it too loud, but I have nothing to compare that to. It worked awesome tho! I also picked up a cheap pumping bra, it held everything perfectly so I could use my hands to do pretty much nothing lol. Oh and I also bought Lansinoh Therapearl 3-in-1 breast therapy. I'd warm 'em up and put 'em on for a cpl mins before pumping, it really helped with flow...also warm 'em and put 'em on while pumping...def helps.

Thank you ladies for all of reviews!!! Medela looks like the one I will get. I have quite a selection to choose from with as well. Noise is a factor as well as traveling with it.

Get the Medela for sure!! Loved mine and will be getting a mother this time around too. Just a FYI- if your insurance only covers the pump part without the bag- target.com has both the bags on sale for AMAZINg prices!! One is a shoulder bag- reg$85.99, sale for $43.00 and the other is the metro bag (bigger) reg 129.99 on sale for $49.99. Crazy sale price but well worth it to carry your pump and parts!! Good luck!

I have used an ameda double electric pump and I really liked it, it worked very well for me, but I do hear everyone recommend the medela. For this baby I'm not sure if I am going to get another ameda or a medela, I have to buy it outright though as insurance does not cover it so I guess if one is on sale I would buy that one. But I think I might go with the ameda again since I know it works for me. If you will be really mobile though I think I'd recommend the medela in style because it comes with it's own little backpack to bring it along with you.

I got a Medela Pump In Style Advanced double breast pump and I LOVED it. I exclusively pumped for my youngest son with it for 6 weeks. (He refused to latch and I had MAJOR supply issues stemming from a breast reduction.) It was quiet enough that I could pump at night without waking the baby or my husband.

I have a medela and it was bought to replace an Avent one that was noisy and useless. Worked as good as it's reputation says but I always tipped it into different bottles as I prefer a different brand for teats.
I've been sterilising and sealing it ready for this baby, I hope it still works but if not I'll replace with the same brand
