Q: Lump on lower back at 5 weeks pregnant?

I'm 5 weeks pregnant and this morning I found a quarter-sized lump/hump/bump (whatever you'd like to call it) on my lower back about three inches to the right of my spine. It hurts when touched and slides around. I called the ER nurse and she told me to wait until Monday and call my family practitioner, but I'm so scared and nervous. Has anyone had this or know what it could be? It feels pretty firm to the touch. I don't go to my OB until next week.

Glad it's nothing to worry about! I know I overanalyze every little change in my body as well! Have a happy and healthy 9 months!

Thanks for your answer! I went to the doctor today and boooyyyy did I feel stupid. It's just a bone! he says it is probably tender to the touch because all the ligaments and muscles are softening and relaxing. Oh well, better safe than sorry!

It could possibly be something like a big cyst or boil. I've read that with hormone fluctuations in pregnancy, there is an increased incidence of sebaceous cysts. Maybe try a warm compress on the area to soothe it, which could release the pressure if it is a cyst (since it's on your back, you will probably need a buddy to help out. Good luck and call your doc when you can!
