However, with this virus and the birth defects it cause put me in WORRY state. Is it only in the first trimester that the Zika Virus hits the hardest or can it affect the brain at any time?

The cases that are in US are from travel or sexual exposure. There are no initial cases in the US from a mosquito bite where the mosquito was in the US. For now, we are all ok. I just hope it lasts...

Sorry, meant to post this link to the CDC stats, which show that there are no locally-acquired cases yet: http://www.cdc.gov/zika/geo/united-states.html

According to the CDC, there have not been any locally-acquired cases in the U.S. yet. All 600 cases in the U.S. are travel-associated, which means people who live in the U.S. either contracted Zika abroad or had sex with someone who did. This probably means there are no Zika-infected mosquitoes in the U.S. currently, although that could change.

My Ob told me there is no reason that it should affect fetal development after the first trimester, but that sometimes it does anyway. She told me to wear bug spray to be safe if I'm ever in a mosquito-heavy area. I agree you should bring it up with your doctor, but wanted to clarify that no one has contracted Zika from a U.S. mosquito yet, that we know of.

Sadly, this virus is in the US and even parts of Canada now. I suggest you speak to your doctor about the risks and what you can do , if anything to prevent it. I lost the website, but a google search with Zika + pregnancy should bring you to a good site for more information.
