Q: Gestational Diabetes

Hello everyone,

A week ago, i found out that we are expecting our 3rd child. I had gestational diabetes with our second but not our first. With our second, i didnt beed medication and controlled it really well with diet only. Everything was fine with my son when he was born. Towards the end of my pregnancy though, my nutritionist had told me that if we have a 3rd that gestational diabetes will come back at full force. I have been exercising consistently for a year now and i do eat healthier than i used to. I was told these factors dont matter but have any of you gotten lucky with not getting it after having it at a previous pregnamcy. If i do have it then i have to start the diet from the very beginning. Not overdoing it woth carbs and sugar anyway but can anyone shed domd light?

Hi There,

I too had it with my first. I was happy with my second that I did not have it and am now crossing my fingers for number three that I don't. It is possible and my OB has told me that after having it the first time around and learning to control with diet, it does help with subsequent pregnancies. Hope that helps:)

I can't speak from personal experience but my good friend had gestational diabetes with her first which she controlled with diet. When she got pregnant with her second she tried to stick to the same diet and she did not develop gestational diabetes with that pregnancy. So while I don't know how common it is, it is possible to have it for one and not the following one.
