Q: How Much Weight Loss is Too Much?

I'm only about 5 weeks in, but I have absolutely no appetite (not morning sickness, I'm just not hungry... ever). So far I've lost 5 pounds; but I've only been keeping track during this past week. I'm not really sure how much I weighed prior to my pregnancy, but when I got my BFP I weighted in at 157, and one week later I'm down to 152. I'm overweight to begin with at 5'3" and there's a part of my brain that's rejoicing at the weight loss; but I am concerned for my baby's health too. Is it too much, too fast? Should I force myself to eat even if I don't feel like it?

I'm 38 weeks and in my first trimester I lost about 22 lbs, I was like you very little to no appetite, and I only craved Cauliflower and carrots with ranch, cheese and crackers and pudding/custard lol. My doctor said as long as the baby was growing and healthy it was ok to lose, and i'm still down 12lbs which i'm happy with. Shes currently about 7lbs and healthy.

Baby doesn't begin getting nutrients from you until the placenta has formed .....it's not uncommon to loss weight in the first trimester and given you are starting with some extra I wouldn't be too concerned. Unfortunately your energy levels will suffer if your not eating. I would do a fruit smoothie before bed or before work which ever I felt less nausea... good luck and congratulations
