I got induced at 39 weeks (with my second child) due to high blood pressure. I went into the hospital in the evening around 6.30 pm and had a pessary gel inserted into my cervix which I didn't really feel. Over night I had mild period like cramps. In the morning I was dilated a couple of cm's so my midwife took me round to delivery and broke my waters and placed a tracer monitor on my son's head. This was about 9.30 am and after about 25 mins I started having really strong contractions. They were quite painful as my son was presented posterior, so we were back to back.
I only used gas and air but wanted a epidural at around 11am as the contractions were coming quite strong and fast but by then I was nearly fully dilated, so I was decided to carry on.
My DS was born 40 mins later, healthy.. My experience with induction is it can happen really fast as all I needed was the pessary gel the night before but you are really well monitored. Good luck :)

I was induced at 37 weeks due to severe pre-eclampsia. It wasn't my ideal way to deliver, and I've been told that it hurts more to be induced (though I was early, and it was my first pregnancy, so I honestly have no way of verifying that), but it was absolutely safe. My doctor started by breaking my water in the hope that I'd start the process myself. When that didn't work, she used Cervidil, which was a bit painful to get inserted (it goes on your cervix), but got me dilating. After a few hours of contractions but at only 3cm dilated she moved on to Pitocin. Pitocin did the job and I was able to deliver my son. Other than the pre-eclampsia I was perfectly fine. My son had absolutely no complications or health concerns and he was ready to be discharged right on time. Personal experience; induction isn't exactly fun, but it's safe.
