One further possibility is that you have a bicornuate uterus and that part of the uterus isn't getting the message that you are pregnant. (Obscure, but possible!) But there isn't always an obvious cause when it comes to bleeding. The first trimester is a risky time, but also I hear that a lot of women get bleeding throughout - even heavy bleeding - and the pregnancy is fine. Of course it will make you very worried. If you get a heartbeat on your next scan, that will be a reassuring. I had a bleed just before 6 weeks and a scan a week later showed the heartbeat. I cried with relief. Now 39w and baby is imminent. :-)

Thank you both! They checked for a hematoma and couldn't find anything. Projesterone is "in the grey area", so I'm going to ask for supplements (it can't hurt, right?). I had another scan this weekend and they found a sac! Thank God it's not in a tube, it's exactly where it should be. It is measuring about 2 weeks behind schedule, but my hCG keeps going up, and it wasn't there last week, so the doctors are hopeful (still cautioning me that a slowly developing sac is not a good sign, but optimistic that there could have been a super late implantation). I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I've got a fighter and that projesterone supplements will help!

Have you checked your progesterone? It can be a cause of bleeding.
