Q: Progesterone Dropping

A little backstory first: It turns out i'm closer to 5 weeks pregnant than the 6 + we originally thought. I had about 3 weeks of off-and-on brown spotting with two instances of bright red bleeding. BUT my hCG keeps on doubling and my ultrasounds went from nothing to a gestational sac that is growing like it should. However, my progesterone has gone from 7.6 to 5.5 over the course of those three weeks. Does this mean there's something wrong with the baby? A guaranteed miscarriage? Or is it still possible I can pull this pregnancy off (despite the rough start)? My doctor seems to think that progesterone supplements will just delay the inevitable, but Dr. Google tells me it could actually do the opposite and save a failing pregnancy. Any thoughts? Should I seek a second opinion?

I would get a second opinion. I've never heard of a Dr. not doing everything possible to try and help in a viable pregnancy.

If your HCG is doubling, I would get on progesterone ASAP. If it is a normal pregnancy, then the supplements could save it. The spotting and bleeding is probably due to your low progesterone. Anything below a 10 will result in an unviable pregnancy.
