Q: High BP and High sugar

Hi All

I am 31 and pregnant. I am very happy to receive this news from my doctor. But there is one thing tat has been troubling me since a long time and this is regarding my high sugar and high BP. My BP is about 150/100 and the doctor has said that sometime it increases when you get pregnant. It will be come fine post your delivery. Also the sugar is very high and so the doctor has strictly asked me to follow a particular diet. I am not sure how will i be able to spend the next 2 trimesters.

The diet part can suck. But you'll find ways to make it work. Certain foods you'll like, others you won't, you'll figure it out. It's a long time to stay on a restrictive diet, but you gotta look at the end-goal: you'll be healthy, and your baby will be healthy. The last thing you want is a baby with a super high birth weight (ouch!) or one that comes early because your body can't handle it anymore (trust me, the NICU is terrifying!). So just take it a day at a time. Plan your meals ahead of time. If you know you're going out to eat, look at the menu when you're NOT hungry first, determine what you want to eat, then when you get there don't even pick up the menu - just order what you had previously decided. It takes a lot of will power, but so does raising a kid. You've got this!

Hello,
Oh the dieting can be difficult, but i am sure you can do it for the little one. As for the sugar levels, it is probably just gestational diabetes and will go away once your pregnancy is done. Good luck!
