I am currently 30 weeks 5 days and I just found out I have GD two weeks ago. My after meal numbers are all fine but I have not been able to control my fasting numbers which are always over 100. My doc believes I will need insulin. I know many woman that have been able to control their GD with diet and exercise though so don't get too worried. You may not need any meds or you may just need some oral medications. I had PCOS so the doctors suspected this would happen to me but we were all hoping for the best. I feel your pain though as it has not been easy adjusting to the eating schedule, well at least for me. I wish you luck and if you need to vent, feel free.

Gestational diabetes normally goes away after birth. But women who've had it are more likely to develop:
gestational diabetes again in future pregnancies
type 2 diabetes – a lifelong type of diabetes
You should have a blood test to check for diabetes 6 to 13 weeks after giving birth, and every year thereafter if the result is normal.
See your GP if you develop symptoms of high blood sugar, such as increased thirst, needing to pee more often than usual, and a dry mouth – don't wait until your next test.
You should have the tests even if you feel well, as many people with diabetes don't have any symptoms.
You'll also be advised about things you can do to reduce your risk of developing diabetes, such as maintaining a healthy weight, eating a balanced diet and exercising regularly.
Some research has suggested that babies of mothers who had gestational diabetes may be more likely to develop diabetes or become obese later in life.

Hi there, I had GDM during my last pregnancy. Initially I tried to control my BGLs through diet (cutting out sugar, fruit and starchy carbs) but unfortunately I had to use insulin x 3 daily (mix of fast and slow release) as my before and post meal levels were too high.
I used to have to email my diabetes nurse specialist every 3 days with my BGLs and then she'd email back if I had to increase my insulin.
I found keeping a food diary really good as it kept me accountable and I'd liase with a diabetes dietician and she'd make suggestions regarding other food options.
I did end up on about 50 units of insulin and delivered my son at 37 weeks as my BGLs became a bit unstable and I was having low BGLs episodes. I've been tested since I had my son and I am not pre diabetic and my BGLs are now good.
Let me know if you have any questions. Hopefully you'll get some good resources from your diabetes team too :)
