About Me
The journey to becoming pregnant felt like a long and excruciating one!My boyfriend had a vasectomy when he was 26, so when we met I really had no idea that he would be the father of my first child! After much discussion, we decided to get his vasectomy reversed, and in December 2011, we did it, hoping to get pregnant soon after. But I was having a lot of cyclic issues with my period, and the only thing TTC was telling me was that I was having long and annovulatory cycles. Later on, I would find out from my Reproductive Endocrinologist that this is because I have Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome. I was told that I would need a lot of assistance to become pregnant. However before doing expensive bloodwork, tests and such, I decided to try and do things naturally. I started to exercise regularly, started to try and destress my lifestyle, and started taking herbs (Vitex, namely) that would "help". Unfortunately, nothing did.
After about 14 months of unsuccessful TTC, I decided to buy a decent HMO plan and go through Kaiser for assistance with labs and such. Before being approved I had to take a pregnancy test to prove I wasn't already pregnant, which is always a stab in the heart for the trouble conceiving. It of course was negative. After getting approved for an HMO, boy did I get an earful from my doctor. She berated me on why I didn't see a specialist from Kaiser to begin with and straight up told me "Look, you are not going to get pregnant without help, so we are going to do this my way. See our specialist."
She might as well have said to erase everything I had done and paid for out of pocket to see my RE, and basically called my PCOS diagnosis BS. My hope was shattered, and my doctor was the thing that clinched it. I didn't want to TTC anymore.
Literally 2 weeks later, I was feeling really down. My breasts were large and tender, and I took an HPT to rule it out...and wouldn't you know...I was pregnant. What a miracle!!
