My Journal

Worried

I've talked about my endless Braxton Hicks a lot in my journal entries. I've had them during all 3 pregnancies, starting around 29 weeks with #1, 18 weeks with #2, and 14 weeks with this pregnancy. I try to ignore them because I've never had evidence of them changing my cervix.

But yesterday and today, they keep stopping me in my tracks. And when I stop to time them, they are between 2.5 and 5 minutes apart, lasting 45 seconds to a minute. I messaged my OB and they told me to come in for another cervix check and appointment, so I set that up for Friday morning.

I would try to go in earlier if:
1. My husband wasn’t out of town for work until tomorrow night,
2. My daughter wasn’t home sick (today and probably tomorrow too),
3. I didn’t have to pick up my son at 6 and be a (working) mom all night/during the day tomorrow
4. There was any bleeding or menstrual-type cramps (none of this so far, thank God)

What I hope most -- assuming my cervix isn’t changing, and I’d be surprised if it was -- is that they can prescribe me Procardia to calm down my uterus. I can’t imagine going another ~14 weeks with this many contractions. I have more and they get more intense every day.

Something’s gotta give, and hopefully it’s not my water...

Hi @Sonata85, thanks for thinking of me! I've been on "bedrest" since I got home Saturday midday and it's going OK so far. One minute I feel like I can definitely do this until term, the next I think about timing contractions and wonder what it would take to make me go back to the hospital. :-/ We shall see.

Just logged on and wondering how you’re doing. Hope you’re getting some good rest? Can’t be easy with two kiddos, job, and a husband lol take care. Keeping you in my prayers :)

I've been checking in to see how some of the ladies are doing and OMG so surprised to see this! Hoping and praying baby boy can stay in a little while longer. So glad you were able to go in when you did. Keep us posted!

Baby’s in and you’re going home such a relief! I hope you come up with a situation that will let you work and rest as much as needed. Magnesium is awful—had it after both deliveries to bring down my blood pressure. Worked, but I was barfing and had triple-vision after 24 hours of it. Hugs, mama!

Thanks for the comments ladies. Meds have done their trick and only having the occasional contraction now. Water still intact. And I have a new diagnosis: polyhydramnios (too much fluid). Explains a lot, actually. I should be able to go home in the morning but the downside is, there’s nothing they can give me to prevent the contractions outside the hospital (they don’t recommend procardia over longer periods of time). So it will interesting trying to plan out some kind of modified bed rest situation where I can still work.

P.S. magnesium SUCKS

I am so glad you went in earlier. Thinking about you and baby boy a lot and hoping they are able to stop the labor. Will you have to be in the hospital the duration of your pregnancy again? Or is that TBD?

Oh wow, I’m so glad you made it to the hospital. Will be thinking good thoughts for you both. I hope the meds do the trick

Welp, it’s good I came in. I’m officially in preterm labor and contracting every 3 minutes. I’m on magnesium and another med yo stop labor, and got my first steroid shot. Please keep baby boy and me in your thoughts. :/
