Well, I finally had her. On June 29th, at 10:30 pm I started feeling contractions. By 12:00 am they were coming every 2-3 minutes apart so we decided to go in. The hospital immediately admitted me because they just had a feeling that this was the real deal. When I got checked at 12:30, I was at 2 cm dilated.
By 3 am they checked me again and I was at 3 cm. Unfortunately I was too uncomfortable to sleep. By 7 am, I hadn't progressed and labor was beginning to stall. So I bounced on a birthing ball for a while and took a bath. Unfortunately by noon there was still no change so they decided to give me a small dose of pitocin. By 3 I was finally progressing and the pain was getting unbearable. I decided to get the epidural and I was 5 cm dilated. Unfortunately since I hadn't slept in 24 hours, I was getting exhausted and severely emotional so I ended up having an emotional break down. I had to get numbed three times because I kept freaking out. Then at about 4 or 5 pm I still wasn't getting the benefits from my epidural, aside from one leg being completely numb and the other side beginning to numb. The outside of my pubic bone was also starting to numb. So they decided that since I had been peeing every hour and hadn't since I had gotten the epidural (we waited to put the catheter in until I was completely numb), the nurses decided they couldn't wait any longer because I was running the risk of my bladder exploding. I again had a complete breakdown because of the fear of it hurting. Luckily I didn't feel it. After that things continued to progress and by about 6 or 7, my mom showed up. Then at 8 or 9 Sean's family showed up (mom and two sisters). By 9:30 I was able to get about a half hour of sleep thanks to my mom and best friend rubbing my back and hips. Unfortunately at 10 pm is when things got extremely hard. I felt two hard poundings on my pelvic bone that made me scream and then my water broke. Everyone heard it too. The nurse checked me and I was at 9 cm or so. So at 10:16 my doctor came and checked me and I was at a 10. Unfortunately it hurt so bad that I was screaming in pain and actually fought my nurse and doctor. During the transitional period I kept screaming that I wanted the gas and in between contractions (1 minute) I started passing out. I told the doctor that I needed to push and they barely had time to get prepared. I actually had to be told to stop pushing (almost physically impossible when you're in that much pain) because I had the risk of tearing. But finally after pushing through 3 contractions for 6 minutes, I had my little girl on my chest. I had no tears whatsoever and almost immediately the pain went away. Unfortunately because there was no time between the transitional period and me needing to push, there was no time for anyone to leave the room so I probably traumatized Sean's 20 and 13 year old sisters. lol But Alison is perfect. Unfortunately because she was delivered so quickly she wasn't able to have the amniotic fluid in her tummy pushed out so she had a hard time eating the first day, but she's making up for that now. lol She is just amazing. But even though I love my daughter so much, I am never having kids again. I seriously thought my body was ripping apart. It was the worst pain of my entire life.
