So in a fair bit of pain but no contractions I headed to L&D not long after posting my question. My son was back to back so I've never experienced a normal early labour.
Apparently according to the midwife on the phone my sympathy were pretty much straight forward and that I should come in to make sure everything was okay.

They took me in and hooked me up confirming that although I wasn't feeling them much I was contracting but not strongly or regularly.
Simple paracetamol delt with the pain but yhe braxtons/contractions got stronger making lovely patterns on my graph and the midwife said I was 3 seconds apart but said they were nothing to be concerned about.
They did an internal and said I was 1cm and that this may indeed be early stages of labour but also that it could still take days/weeks or even stop altogether yet.
They were not concerned that I was 36 +3 as baby would be okay being close to term and although she may need a little help breathing they would not stop labour if I progress.
Yes I was surprised too as I went in saying I was too early but apparently not for the NHS.
So I'm at her will now, she's the boss.
But until I'm either unable to cope with the pain at home or my waters break I'm just to take it easy at home.

Fingers crossed this will pass as I really don't want her to be anything but healthy.
Here's a picture I took for hubby who was 3hrs away when all this happened worrying about me alone in hospital saying I was okay and so was baby.

Trying my best, nothing but uncomfortable braxtons and a slight ache across my lower abdomen today so a little relieved. I really want to bring her straight home after I have her.
I was born at 36wks and couldn't eat or breath and spent the first three weeks of my life in an incubator. I don't want that for her.

Quartz that's exactly how I felt. If they had said that before I went in I would have stayed home and just got on with it like standard labour but i was glad they checked baby out as shes unusually active these past 12 hours but they didn't seem concerned. Still glad it seems to have subsided for now, I would orefer her to be comfortably term plus I'm not actually ready for her yet. Even my hospital bag lacked a free essentials.
Thank you Stickybean, going to try to rest through the braxtons but my 2yr old is awake now too so i don't think I'm getting much sleep now.

With my first I had lots and lots of frequent Braxton-Hicks from 35 weeks until I gave birth. The first time it happened I called L&D and was told the same as you: after 35 weels, they do not try and stop labour if it starts. I was surprised, but actually felt reassured because it meant there was no risk that I would get to L&D too late and they wouldn't be able to stop labour.... the same goes for you! Although, of course, ideally, your little one will stay put a couple more weeks!
