Caroline is (Over) Eight Months!

I am almost a month behind on updating! Caroline actually turned eight months old on November 25th and will be nine months old on Friday. Gees, it’s like a slap in the face how fast it’s going. She’s my last baby, is that why it feels like it’s slipping by so much faster than with Sebastian? It’s absolutely heartbreaking. We are still breastfeeding but now it’s becoming a bit more work. She has officially passed the ‘babies don’t manipulate’ stage because she knows what she wants and how she wants it and woe be to anyone who thinks they’re going to interfere. And she doesn’t have a cute little baby cry like my son did but this pterodactyl-esque shrill that she hurls like a dagger. We have begun taking tiny steps towards transitioning to weaning because I still only plan to go until she’s a year old, which include cutting out non-nutritional nursing at night (we co-sleep more than we don’t) and having her nap in her nursery during the day so it becomes familiar to her. Well last night I decided to encourage her to spend at least the start of the night in her dropped pack ‘n’ play right beside my bed. I have been doing research on making sure weaning doesn’t traumatize my child and followed all the advice: I comforted and reassured her before laying her down, comfort-wise I made sure it felt similar to my bed since that’s what she’s used to, and she was fed and really drowsy. She was perfectly peaceful for about an hour and a half but then she lost her mind. I knew she wasn’t hungry so I tried soothing her without picking her up. I know she just wanted to nurse back to sleep but I stayed strong. She eventually fell back asleep but woke up three hours later with a fever so she didn’t go back to her bed… The temperature comes and goes, thanks to her teeth. She finally officially cut the first one on Election Day but I believe the one right next to it is about to cut through too. Bash never struggled teething as a baby but my kids are almost polar opposites in personality so far. With Caroline, it’s more like navigating a mine field. Luckily, I have plenty of practice after seven years of marriage to her daddy. *Snort* In other news, we had a great trip to Disney early this month and now are preparing for our first Thanksgiving as a family of four. Money is super tight so I will be missing Black Friday shopping for the first time but I’m still trying to look forward to Christmas. My parents are taking us all on a trip to Dollywood for Sebastian’s sixth birthday on the 16th so that should be fun. If you’re interested in keeping up with our antics, I started a blog. We just have so much going on between the military, homeschooling, homemaking, and such that I figured I’d create a digital diary. It’s at https://mcdanielmoments.wordpress.com/ and you can also find me on Facebook (Amanda McDaniel in Cartersville) and on Instagram (Amanda_W_McDaniel). I’ll be retiring from Countdown My Pregnancy on Care’s first birthday after over two years of support on both it and Countdown to Pregnancy. I miss it but it’s getting time to let go.
