At this point, I looked up at the anesthesiologist and asked him if I was going to be okay, if I was going to make it? He looked over the divider at the surgery, and looked back down at me and replied, " They're doing a great job." Not exactly the comforting answer I was looking for, but at least he didn't lie to me. I laid there wondering how my husband would care for the children, If I'd get to say goodbye, and grieving that I'd never hold my baby. It was the scariest event of my life. After I was finally closed up, they brought in an xray tech to xray my abdomen to make sure nothing "had been left inside" of me. It was possible due to the frantic nature of my surgery, and the many hands trying to fix me at once. Luckily after three xrays, they decided all looked clear.

Two and a half hours after my Csection began, they finally took me off of the operating table, put me on a bed, and wheeled me out to my husband, baby girl, and doula who had been worriedly waiting to see if I'd be okay. I was able to hold and nurse my baby girl in the recovery room, praise the Lord. I could see the concerned looks on everyone's faces still, and later realized it was because I was as white as a sheet, and starting to swell.

Recovery:
I thought I was doing well, felt strong, and wasn't in too much pain. However, I could see my body was swelling still, and when I walked, it felt like I had water balloons tied to the tops of my feet, and I was still as white as a sheet. Clara was a little yellow looking, and was losing weight prettying quickly. I continued doing all that was asked of me, walking, eating, drinking, flexing my feet, and wearing the compression cuffs on my calves. Even though I felt good, and the nurses said I was looking amazing and appeared to be healing well, my lack of color led the Doctor to order a hemoglobin test, which came back severely low. This meant I needed a blood transfusion immediately. I guess I lost a lot more blood during the Csection than the doctors had originally thought. I had two bags of blood that night, and began feeling even better the next day. By night four, I began pumping viciously after breastfeeding Clara, to try and get as much colostrum out as possible and feeding it to her right away, as she was now down 9.9% of her body weight. The nurses had said if she lost anymore weight, we'd have to stay another day and supplement her with formula. All of my hard work that night paid off, by the next morning Clara had gained weight! We were finally going to get to go home!

I'm so thankful to be alive, to have my daughter healthy and gaining weight, and my family together. Thank you Jesus for life!

OMG! Sounds like a very scary delivery. I am so glad you and Clara are doing well now. I know exactly what you mean by the water balloons on your feet. I had the same problem. Took me almost 6 weeks for my feet to feel better.
Hang in there and yes praise Jesus for watching over you both and all of us...seems we all had a rough delivery.
