Viability and 24w growth ultrasound

We made it! Viability! Wooooooo wooooooo! A momentous occasion indeed. :) :)

To make it even better we went for our 24w growth ultrasound and baby boy looks great! Still measuring approximately a week ahead, weight in the mid 60s for percentile. Currently no concerns about growth or anything else. So for now little man just needs to keep on growing.

I am almost completely weaned off the prednisone now, which I have taken my sweet little time doing. It is the only thing that has been suppressing my immune system so I am extremely nervous to be off of it, even though I know I need to be off of it before 28 weeks for sure due to concerns of it crossing the placenta then and also for increasing my risk of GD. I am down to 5mg, which isn't much considering I was at 20.

What is making me feel a little bit better of weaning off of it is my acupuncturist suggested this alternate supplement called serum-derived bovine immunoglobulin. It is an immune modulator and in reading a lot of the studies and info on it, patients with chronic immune conditions - like MS - will often take this as an alternative to IVIg, when they are unable to get IVIg covered by insurance. This is HUGE for me, as I lived on IVIg with my previous two pregnancies. It also makes me feel more confident that something is in my body calming things down and allowing baby to thrive. I have no idea if my immune system is flaring or not, but there is no harm to taking this supplement so I am all for it. I even showed it to my OB before taking it to make sure she had no concerns since, of course, on the label it says "if you are pregnant or breastfeeding talk to your healthcare provider first". She said "oh this is all good stuff in here - good bacteria and things for your body. You can absolutely take this". PERFECT. So it has been a little over a week now and my biggest complaint is getting it to dissolve in liquids properly. It really clumps up, sticks to whatever I am trying to blend it with, etc. Also... it is not tasteless as described in some of the info sheets. Far from it for me. BLEH. There is this earthy "this definitely came from an animal and I am now drinking it" taste that is VERY noticeable. But I'll gulp it down if it helps.

Still working on a name.... We were really thinking Nico Lee and then I read an article of that terrible guy from CO that killed his pregnant wife and 2 daughters and the woman's father said the unborn baby was a boy and they would have named him Nico Lee. What are the odds?! I know it shouldn't mean much, but it made me feel weird.

Other than that just preparing for the holidays! Our 3.5 year old, Ellison, is at the fun age where she believes in Santa now and also gets it so it has been really fun. :) Enzo just turned 2 after Thanksgiving and is a freaking tornado. OH. MY. GOD. Seriously. Kid never stops. I can't believe the ornaments are still in one piece or that the tree is standing, for that matter. Every 2 seconds either my husband, Ellison, or I are saying "no, no Enzo" or "Enzo, stop" or "Enzo, you can't touch that" or something to that effect. I have no idea what it is going to be like to have TWO little boys. Woof. Elle still thinks there is a chance this is a girl in my belly. I told her that it is definitely a boy and she said "Mom, I just don't think that's possible". LOL.

Hope you are all having a wonderful holiday season! I'll work on getting a bump picture posted. I am so bad about doing that... We do take one every single week!

Congratulations on viability! Huge milestone after what you've been through. The bovine stuff sounds nasty, but the things we do for our babies...right? Nico is a great name. Maybe you can find a different middle name to cut the association? Big picture, no one will ever remember that connection years from now anyway. It certainly goes with your other boys' names. I love the name Ellison and Enzo is adorable too. Have a merry Christmas as well!

Congrats on getting to viability!! Its always such a relief! I can't believe you're at this milestone already. I guess time flies when you're not trying to conceive anymore lol. Hope you and your family have a merry christmas!
