First trip to the ER this pregnancy...
By proudmamaerica » Posted Sep. 29, 2015 1:41pm - 582 views - 5 comments

Let me start off by saying I HATE the ER and would like to avoid the insane wait as much as possible. I went to my PCM yesterday afternoon to see if I had a UTI because I've been in pain since Friday. My PCM says the test was negative but there was blood in my urine and sent me home (though she did order the batitracin just as a precaution). I didn't have time to fill it yesterday so I came home. Pain got worse, like waaaay worse. I called my OB and they said I need to go to the ER. Great... but I still had to wait for my husband to come home from work AND for the kids to go to bed.
I finally drove myself there and arrived at 9:30 only to wait in the waiting room for 5 hours. By the 4th hour I went up to the window to see where I was in line, the guy said there were 4 people ahead of me. So I waited and more than 4 people went back. By this time there was like maybe 2 people in the waiting room when there were A TON when I arrived. 5th hour came so I again went up and asked, and said more than 4 people have been back and he was SO RUDE saying "well they have higher priority than you." I said "really, more priority than a woman who's in a lot of pain and is pregnant (I can even lose my baby if this goes untreated! It had been 5 days!!) and he goes "yes, they can die... YOU are not going to die."
FUCK YOU ASSHOLE. *I* might not die but my baby could and if that happens I will sue your ass (I'm not even a sue happy person, but that was just not right to say!) That made me cry... so here I am SOBBING in the freaking ER..... alone.... I was so pissed. Finally I got to go back 10 min later. Sat in the room for about 20 min and the doc finally comes in and says "so you have a uti?" and I said, no, kidney stones (because that's what my PCM said) she goes, "well I don't think it's kidney stones. Your urine showed nitrates which means uti..." so I told about what my PCM said and she said she wasn't sure why their test showed negative but she said her test was def positive. But she said "I'll order a ultrasound of your kidneys to see if there's any fluid back up." So I waited to do that... got it done and then had to wait for results. She said there was fluid back up in my right one (the one I've been having the most pain out of). So but she still doesn't think it's a stone. But said to take the antibiotics for 7 days and if I'm still in pain to go see a urologist.....
They said my potassium was really low too. I said yeah.. well I've been having diarrhea since Friday... (9 times on friday (had to leave work early I was in so much pain and wasn't very helpful spending all that time in the bathroom.) and several times over the weekend and yesterday. So they said that's probably why so they gave me some potassium pills. They also gave me a norco tab (said it was safe for pregnancy) and asked if I had anyone picking me up... I lied and said yes... lol. But I drove myself home. I managed just fine... there was NO one on the roads at 4:30am to a total of 7 hours spent at the ER. ugh.
To make matters worse there seems to be some sickness going around and I def caught it... I'm miserable. :(
My MIL was kind enough to offer to take my kiddos to school and pick them up so I was able to sleep from about 5:30am till 10:30am. But they'll be back any min now with their abounding energy and I'm like barely functioning. >.<
Lord, I need a prayer right now! My kidney/ureter/bladder pain is not gone and it's hard taking care of little ones when you're exhausted and in pain.

Erica, I'm so sorry you had to go through such a long, lonely, shitty and painful night! :-( It sounds horrible :-( At least the doctor treated you properly, in contrast to that very insensible guy!!! I hope the antibiotics will do their thing and you will soon feel better and never have to go through something like that again!

Give it a day or 2 and the pain should hopefully go away. I swear, the day after I started antibiotics for a UTI was the most painful. Then the pain just disappeared. And yes, screw that dude in the ER. Jerk!

I hate hospitals as well. I am lucky enough to live in an area with 3 hospitals all in a 5 mile radius. I would have got my behind up and walked out the door. Well probably cussed him out and then left. Pregnant women should be high priorities. I hope you feel better soon. Get some rest when you can. I always explain to my kids. "mommy feels horrible and would just like some quiet time." they usually understand and go watch a movie on their own. I hope you can do the same. feel better soon!
