I'm moving up to an appointment every 2 weeks now, with perinatal checkups every 4 weeks. We've got a tour scheduled of St. Joseph's, where my OB delivers, but it's not until Aug. 21st. At last perinatal (Aug 9th0, the boys had only a 3% weight difference, 1lb 13oz versus 1lb 10oz, so that's good news. I do my 1 hour glucose screening next appointment, on Aug 25th.

My OB wrote me a prescription for a maternity brace, since I've been having such severe back and hip pain, but it turns out my insurance doesn't cover maternity braces, even prescribed ones. The medical supply place I went to had me sit in a hot patient room for an hour while they verified that my insurance wouldn't pay, and then told me the brace was $54. I told them I couldn't afford that, so the orthodist offered me a payment plan of $25 now and the other $29 later. I said yes, and she fitted me with the brace, and oh god, did it feel better! Then we went out to pay for it.

As she was having me sign the paperwork for the payment plan, she suddenly looked at one of the office staff and said 'Can we do payment plans on AHCCCS? (my insurance)' and the woman looks up and very snottily (and LOUDLY) says 'No. If she can't pay for it now, she can't have it.'

And the orthodist turns to me and says 'Oh. Well, sorry.' and made me take the brace off there in the hallway in front of everybody before saying 'Unless you want to pay for it now.' I told her no, and I took my prescription back too, and left. I felt like crying so hard when I got in the car, because it was so embarassing to not only not have the money for it, but to have to take it off right there instead of being allowed back in the room to do it. To make matters worse, after wearing the brace for 10 or so minutes and then having to take it off, I realized just how badly I actually hurt.

Ugh. The only lucky thing about this was that my wife was smart enough to look at the brand and size of the brace they were going to give me, so we could look it up at home. :) We found a similar one at babiesrus and I went and tried it on, but it wasn't nearly as comfortable or supportive (because it wasn't an actual orthodic brace), so shi looked it up on Amazon and actually found the exact brace on sale by the company who makes it, for $10 less than the orthodist wanted. Shi had it shipped overnight, and it should be here tomorrow. :)

How are you getting on? Did you get your brace?
