First ultrasound!
By ericalee » Posted Apr. 12, 2016 8:50am - 365 views - 5 comments

We made the trek to Chicago yesterday for our ultrasound appointment at Dr. KK's office. I did pretty well at keeping myself distracted on the drive with a knitting project so the real nerves didn't set in until I got in the ultrasound room. Usually the prep for the ultrasound takes longer, but the ultrasound tech was super efficient so it was only about two minutes before that little probe was all up in my lady bits.

I saw a flicker right away and breathed a huge sigh of relief and then sat back to hear all of the details. Baby was measuring 6w2d with a heartrate of 113bpm. Yes, only ONE baby! Phew!!! According to my LMP I was 6w4d, but I knew the baby wouldn't measure that because I did not ovulate anywhere close to CD14. I am very happy with how baby is measuring -- it's right on for where I was thinking. :)

My blood flow was excellent, no SCH in sight, and they said I ovulated from my left side. This was kind of surprising because any cycle where I have had an u/s after O has showed I ovulated from my RIGHT side. Turns out lefty works too! :)

I had some blood drawn to check on my Natural Killer cells and Cytokines and then had a review with Margaret, the NP I follow with. She is very pleased with how all of my numbers are looking so far and with what the ultrasound shows. Last fall with my miscarriage my estradiol levels reallllly struggled. It was an uphill battle the entire time, but this pregnancy I am ahead of the curve and everything looks PERFECT. I am so hoping that that means my body is more accepting of this pregnancy and come December we will welcome baby #2!

The plan is for weekly growth ultrasounds until 14 weeks, weekly IVIg infusions until at least 8 weeks, and my usual med plan. I am totally a-ok with it all. If everything goes well we will tell family around Mother's Day! It was so hard to keep our mouths shut this past weekend when everyone was at our house for Elle's birthday party. My husband said he almost slipped up a few times and it was very hard to play along with all the "imagine when you have two" conversations as though they were hypothetical and not something that is really going to be happening!

Adam is still pretty reserved on his excitement because of what happened last time. Losing the baby at 9w after seeing a healthy heartbeat prior was extremely hard on him. He is being very cautious this time and although he is so excited, will kiss my belly, etc. he is adamant about not telling people until we get to the second tri aka "the safe zone". Still a ways to go, but so happy that we have made it to where we are!

Baby in uterus - check!!
Heartbeat - check!!
Measuring on target - check!!
No SCH - check!!
ONE baby ;) -- check!!

So happy to hear that everything is going well! :) :) Hope these next weeks go by fast for you, these first weeks up to the "safe zone" are always hard.

What great news! This is almost the time a year ago we had our first ultrasound and I will never forget that feeling going into the room (although my outcome just a tad different!). Sounds like things will be progressing as they should in the coming weeks!!!
