Enzo Antonio (long overdue birth announcement) - part 1

Very sorry for the extremely belated birth announcement! I know a few of you have been checking on me, so thank you for caring about us that much! :) :)

Here's how the whole thing went down:

On Tues, Nov. 22 I had my 39 week OB appt (at 38w5d). My OB stripped my membranes for me, as it was my last chance to do so prior to my scheduled induction the following Monday after the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. I was still 1cm dilated (boooooooooo) and my OB said it was a 50/50 chance if stripping my membranes would do anything. I didn't think it hurt at all?? I was prepared for it to really hurt because of stories I had heard, but it didn't feel any more uncomfortable than a pap to me. Maybe it meant my body was ready for the big day.

That afternoon and evening I had some cramping, but it was only slightly more intense than BH so I didn't get excited, especially since my OB said I could have them for up to 48 hours after the stripping and it could just go away. I was feeling disappointed when I went to bed, particularly because the OB nurse had told me of a patient the previous week that had it done and 3 hours later she had a baby in her arms. Little did I know I just needed to be a little more patient.

At 2a I woke up and the cramping was uncomfortable. I slept on and off until about 4 and was tossing and turning because I was uncomfortable. I decided I should time them to see how often I was having the cramps and they were about 7 min apart. Meh. Nothing exciting, especially since they were mild. At 5a my husband woke up because I was tossing and turning so much. I gave him the scoop and said I was going to get in the tub to see if that did anything. Hopped in the tub around 530 and all of a sudden I was noticing on my little contractions app that I was getting them every 2-3 min. Uhmmm.. what? We went from 7 to 2-3? Hmmm ok! They still weren't very intense and according to the little cheat sheet from my OB the intensity was more important than frequency.. especially for second births. Plus I had no idea what labor felt like for me because I was induced with our daughter.

At 630 I call the OB on call and she says she thinks it is nothing (probably because I was carrying on a normal convo with her) but to get checked out just in case. Okie dokie! We call daycare right when they open to see if Elle can get dropped off early, which worked out perfectly. We arrived at the hospital around 830. The resident comes in around 9ish and after our conversation and the vaginal exam he says he thinks it is nothing, since I am 2-3cm dilated and don't look uncomfortable. Because I told him that every time I feel a cramp I get a little glob of creamy fluid that comes out he wants to test to make sure my water didn't break. I really didn't think it had because I remember what it felt like when it happened with Elle... like I peed my pants. This just felt like pregnancy discharge. Well low and behold it came back positive. My water had broken!! Forget going home... time to get admitted! Around this time my doula arrives, which was perfect.

I'm not sure if Enzo heard that we were getting admitted or what, but within 15 minutes it was off to the races! The contractions started getting much more intense and were still 2-3 min apart. I got in the tub, which felt ah-maz-ing and labored there for quite a while. My husband and doula were rockstars and really helped me labor through it all. The next time I got checked I was 6cm. woo woo! All of a sudden the contractions were AWFUL. I was in sooo much pain and my contractions were stacking on top of each other so I would get two in a row before a 2 min break. I then begged for an epidural and after waiting a long time I got one around 1:30p. (to be continued.. i am long-winded)
