Pregnancy Confirmed!

Yesterday I had a trans-vaginal ultrasound at my dr. appointment. my little bean was there and with a heartbeat. my doctor seemed pretty pleased about the heartbeat. the heartbeat was 130. i was told to come back in 3 weeks for the beginning of all the blood work, etc and another ultra sound. however, it seemed that none of the doctors at my doctor's practice were available in 3 weeks (my doctor wasn't even going to be there). the lady scheduling the appointment seems really out of sorts and didn't know what to do so i just told her to give me an appointment for the next week. so now i go back in 4 weeks. i should be 10 weeks by then. it seems i am to see all the doctors (there are 7 i think) in the practice and that weirded me out some. what is the point of having a doctor if that person isn't going to be your doctor. i understand my doctor isn't going to be available all the time for me as he has other patients but to purposely schedule an appointment for tests with another doctor in the practice was odd to me. perhaps i just don't get that the practice of doing that is normal? can someone let me know that they had the same thing happen at their doctor's office and the reason behind it?

aside from that, both DH and I are pretty excited. i wasn't really expecting to be able to see a heart beat yesterday as i thought it might have been too early. Seeing it made our day and also made everything just a bit more real.

When I was going to the OB, I would see either her or the nurse practitioner (who I actually preferred because she would sit and talk with us for a while). When I went into labor last time, there was a different doctor on call, so I didn't see my OB for the first 6 hours of labor. Luckily she was back on shift by the time I delivered.
Now that I switched to the birthing center I will have 1 midwife providing me care the entire pregnancy and will be on call when I go into labor.

I've only seen one of the other doctors, and he seemed okay. He was nice. It was kind of awkward, I guess because it was just a short visit. He came in, listened to the heartbeat, told me everything looked good with my weight and baby's heartbeat and my urine dip and that was basically it. So I didn't really have much time to get to know him, but atleast I met him.

dakotagurrl:
i didn't get to hear the heartbeat only see it. however i was just as thrilled to see it as i wasn't expecting that much!

Eluria88:
The practice you goe to sounds interesting. i believe there should be more dr offices where dr.'s are learning by shadowing. i think it would help bedside manner and their ability to practice medicine in general.

My office is a "residency" all the doctors are in their last year of school I guess you could say and there is 3 teams, A B and C. Each with a separate overseeing doctor (with 35+ years experience) and I have care team C so I can see any of the 5 doctors on that team but they're all overseen by the same doctor so he's in touch with all of them and the entire team consults on my records. It's nice to have 6 doctors all hovering over me. And since they're learning I get extra ultrasounds where they practice on me and I get to see my baby every single visit! I really love it to be honest.

My OB's office has 3 OBGYN's. I see my OB every visit, one time I saw my OB and his OB student but he was just a shadow. My last OBGYN was the only one I ever saw, Idk if it's just the doctors I choose or the difference in the way countries carry out medical practices. I dont think I would like swapping doc's all the time tho. I like to build that trust and comfort level with him, he's playing a massive role in my life and I need to know I can trust him to do what's best for myself and my baby.

Love that u got to hear a heartbeat, it makes everything feel so much more real! Keep the posts coming, its great to read!! =))

I am going to a new clinic and they told me I have to see all five of the doctors throughout my pregnancy.

i am glad to hear others saying they are seeing the other doctors in the practice as well. i was sure that was the case but just wanted to confirm it.

mrsamanda: are you not fond of the other doctors at the practice?

Jessie22:

Yay! Glad there was a heartbeat and everything looks good so far! :) I think my practice has 13 doctors (not entirely sure) but they told me the same thing - my doctor will try to be the one who delivers me but might not be. I think all my appointments are with my doctor though, just for consistency. I'm sure I'll find out more at my first appointment tomorrow - eek! :)
