The right OB?

I had my first OB appointment yesterday and I'm feeling unsure about sticking with this guy. He clearly is very good at delivering babies and he does more than 80% of the deliveries himself, but I couldn't help feeling a little rushed in and rushed out. Not to mention, I was very discouraged by his VERY blunt assessment of my case. I know that I have a lot of complications with my pregnancy, but I felt very depressed by the outlook he painted of the next 9 months. He did assure me that the baby has every chance to be healthy and delivered without a problem, but he emphasized the challenge that getting me through the pregnancy will be. It was kind of a "Well, between your back injury and vascular problem, high blood pressure, and blood sugar issues, we'll have a challenge keeping you comfortable."
Maybe it's just my pregnancy hormones talking but I cried when I got back in my car and I felt this overwhelming feeling that I have no business trying to carry a baby.

Comment from looney » Posted May. 22, 2012 11:05pm Aww. In a sense it's nice to know someone is being realistic and thinking concretely about your situation, to make sure you get all the care and intervention you might need, but at the same time, it sounds like some serious bedside manner is needed! | |
Comment from michelleu129 » Posted May. 22, 2012 10:59am Oh my...get a new ob!!! I am only 5 weeks pregnancy myself with my first but I can tell you with complete certainty that you should NOT be crying after a normal visit with your doc....remember: you employ your doctor...not the other way around! |
