Q: Is an early scan a good idea or not?

I am 7 w and have asked for an early scan, which my DR has agreed to. BUT he has advised that as it is so early, it may only result in increasing my anxiety if all we see is sac and we cant see/hear heartbeat. I am already quite anxious and feel that I need to know if the pregnancy is viable or not. Although I understand that if it is a blighted ovum or missed miscarriage, I may still be none the wiser as it is so early...this is what my DR has warned. I really don't know what to do now....have any ladies had good/bad experiences of having a scan so early? I really would appreciate you sharing your experiences/views. I have had no bleeding and everything seems ok, I just really need some reassurance (which is where the scan comes in)

With a vaginal sonogram you should be able to see everything. This is late enough in the pregnancy to detect a heartbeat for sure. I had one at 6 weeks and could see the heartbeat.

I had an early scan at 7 weeks due to spotting, my local hospital don't do them before 7 weeks in case they don't see anything, thats their procedure i think to avoid distress and in case dates are out by a few days. They do them from 7 weeks as you will see a heartbeat. I was incredibly nervous before mine but the hospital were great and everything went well. I'm also from the UK. I hope everything goes well, the way I looked at it was if there was anything wrong it's best to find out sooner rather than later :) I'm sure the scan will reassure you.
